The Department of Animal Genetics and breeding was established in the year 2020 with the following proposed objectives:

To offer undergraduate courses in Animal Genetics and Breeding
To undertake research on breeding for better livestock production and breed improvement programmes
To disseminate the scientific breeding technologies for the betterment of farming community

As per the MSVE 2016 regulations prescribed by VCI, the department is offering the following under-graduate courses:

- Animal Genetics and Breeding – Paper I and II – Credit Hours: 3+1
  - Unit – I: Biostatistics and Computer Application
  - Unit – II: Principles of Genetics and Population Genetics
  - Unit – III: Principles of Animal Breeding
