The Centralised Clinical Laboratory, a unit of the Madras Veterinary College provides state of the art clinical diagnosis and provides clinic-pathological learning experience for under graduate and post graduate students of TANUVAS.
The CCL is formerly referred as Clinical Pathology since its inception in 1971; the existing unit came into existence in 01.04.1993 under the Directorate of Clinics-TANUVAS. It strives to meet the demands of modern veterinary clinical practice where the clinician is often made to rely completely on laboratory profiles to confirm his/her diagnosis. The unit is equipped with state of the art, modern equipment, highly trained technical staff and subject experts.
Various Profiles are available to evaluate the status and function of the internal organs through Haematology, Serum Biochemistry, Urinalysis, Cytology, Dermatological and Coprological examinations. Clinical microbiological screening of the clinical samples for diagnosing infectious agents and its antibiogram are also routinely carried out to suggest a rationale therapeutic regimen.
In the Process of modernization the CCL is now equipped with Auto haemoanalyser for complete haematology, fully automated biochemical analyzer for Clinical Biochemistry, electrolyte analyser and Uriscan machine for Urinalysis and sophisticated microscope attached with CC TV-monitor and high megapixel camera for capturing images of clinical samples.
We aim to deliver high quality laboratory services to clinical cases and research. We support the clinical units of Madras veterinary College, VUPH Veterinarians as well as Veterinarians of other units of TANUVAS.
Our testing and receiving services are also available to all veterinarians of TANUVAS. We are offering laboratory services for researchers working on externally funded projects and studies and also look forward to work research scholars to cater specific testing required for their research. Our testing services are comprehensive and accurate. Our faculty group of Veterinary specialists include specialists in Clinical Pathology and Microbiology. Tests are carried out by qualified and trained Veterinary professional staff with state of the art diagnosis is done by our qualified subject expertise using specialized equipment and standard operating procedures.
Reporting of results with precision and promptness is our core motto, quality patient care. Timely despatch of our Laboratory test results helps our veterinarians to maintain pet health; quick laboratory diagnosis helps them to begin treatment. Early diagnosis helps to assure in diagnosis, review, treatment and prognosis to the clinical condition all of which help in high standard of veterinary care for the ailing animals
This laboratory is comprised of 7 smaller laboratory unit i) Clinical Haematology (Study of blood samples and its components) ii) Cytology (Study of cells mainly examining the body fluids such as exudates, transudates, pus and discharges) iii) Clinical biochemical profiling of serum iv) Clinical coprology (Examination of faeces) v) Clinical dermatology (Examination of skin scrapings) vi) Clinical urology (urinalysis) vii) Clinical microbiology (Culture, Isolation and identification of bacteria and fungi, Antibiogram etc.)
The CCL has three major functions. The laboratory is primarily a teaching/service laboratory, aiding in the teaching of Clinical Pathology to veterinary students. This is accomplished by providing laboratory results for the diagnosis and treatment of disease in patients admitted to the Veterinary clinical Complex (VCC) of Madras Veterinary College.
In the process of development the CCL is now equipped with certain state-of- the - art automations for effective and rapid screening of clinical samples. Besides this the CCL, caters to the need of PG research and trainings are offered to International Students which included Internees from Chittagong Government Veterinary College, Bangladesh and Students from Michigan State University USA The CCL is to be equipped for the conduct of advanced diagnostic procedures to widen the scope of clinical diagnosis and provide the perfect platform for the clinican to provide a comprehensive picture on the status of the animal patient to the owner concerned. To begin with Endocrinology and Serology are to be expeditiously introduced.
