Outreach Activities

Outline of Recent Outreach Activities

The VCRI, Orathanadu is not only excelling in education and research, but also engaged in a number of outreach and social activities since it's inception. The twin major objectives of the programmes are: (1) reaching the unreached and empowering the stakeholders; (2) transforming our students as more responsible and society friendly citizen. Outline of extension programmes recently conducted/ organised by the VCRI, Orathanadu is listed below.

  • The Department of Veterinary Parasitology, Veterinary College and Research Institute, Orathanadu organized an ATMA sponsored training programme on “Integrated Farming System Mainly Livestock” from 03.02.2021 to 11.02.2021. In this training, various guest lectures on integrated livestock farming practices have been delivered by the experts of the college. A total of 15 farmers were benefitted in this training
  • The Department of Livestock Products Technology (LPT), Veterinary College and Research Institute, Orathanadu organized a three-day NABARD sponsored training programme on “Value-added dairy products - A gateway for dairy entrepreneurship” from 16.02.2021 to 18.02.2021
  • The Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension Education, Veterinary College and Research Institute, Orathanadu organized a Training Programme the one day on “Integrated Farming System as a tool for Sustainable Livelihood of Farmers in Cauvery Delta Zone of Tamil Nadu” on 10.02.2021, 19.02.2021, 22.02.2021 and 26.02.2021 under the sponsorship of Tamil Nadu State Land Use Research Board (TN-SLURB) Govt. of Tamil Nadu. A total of 123 farmers were participated and benefitted
  • Veterinary College and Research Institute, Orathanadu, celebrated World Women’s Day with the theme of the year 2021 as “Women in Leadership: Achieving an equal future in a Covid-19 World “on 05.03.2021
  • The Department of Veterinary Microbiology, Veterinary College and Research Institute, Orathanadu and ICICI Foundation for inclusive growth, Tiruchirapalli jointly organized a guest lecture on “COVID-19 Crisis health management- diagnosis of diseases and primary health care for livestock” or farmers through online on 21.05.2021. A total of 76 farmers of Thanjavur, Tiruchirapalli. Pudukottai, Nagappatinam, Vellore, Tiruvannamalai and Madurai Districts of Tamilnadu were participated in the webinar
  • Veterinary College and Research Institute Orathanadu celebrated the World Environment Day - 2021 on 05.06.2021. A mass tree plantation was arranged at various places of VCRI Campus
  • Department of Veterinary Pharmacology and Toxicology, Veterinary College and Research Institute, Orathanadu organized one day regional webinar on “First aid health care of livestock and poultry” on 24.06.2021 for the benefit of farming community of Cauvery delta districts viz. under State Innovation Funded scheme. A total of 454 farmers from Thanjavur, Thiruvarur, Trichy, Pudukottai, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam and Ariyalur districts registered for the webinar and benefited. Guest lectures and demonstrations were carried out for the primary health care of dairy cows, sheep, goats and poultry for economically important diseases
  • Workshop on "Ethno Veterinary Practices" was conducted by the Department of Veterinary Pharmacology and Toxicology, Veterinary College and Research Institute, Orathanadu for farmers belonging to scheduled caste under the ICAR Scheme on "Ethno Veterinary Medicine" for two days on 27.07.2021 and 30.07.2021. Forty farmers from Poyyundarkottai and forty farmers from Athanakottai in Orathanadu participated on 27.07.2021 and 30.07.2021, respectively.
  • Veterinary Clinical Complex, Veterinary College and Research Institute, Orathanadu, Thanjavur has organized a "Special Animal Health Camp" in collaboration with the Department of Animal Husbandry, Thanjavur at Veterinary Hospital, Pattukottai on 28.07.2021. A total of 85 Anti Rabies Vaccinations for dogs, 15 castrations for dogs and 30 cows with infertility were treated during the camp.
  • The Department of Veterinary Surgery and Radiology, Veterinary College and Research Institute, Orathanadu organized two days Animal birth control camp for canines on 03.08.2021 and 04.08.2021 for the benefit of Community dogs and owner owned dogs
  • Totally 25 animals were presented for surgery after through clinical examination spaying was done for 8 female dogs and castration was done for 6 male dogs. All the animals were vaccinated for antirabies vaccine.
  • The Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension Education, Veterinary College and Research Institute, Orathanadu organized one day training programme on “Integrated Farming System as a tool for Sustainable Livelihood of Farmers in Cauvery Delta Zone of Tamil Nadu” on 17.08.2021 and 18.08.2021 under the sponsorship of Tamil Nadu State Land Use Research Board (TN-SLURB) Govt. of Tamil Nadu. A total of 64 farmers were participated and benefitted
  • Veterinary College and Research Institute Orathanadu celebrated World Ozone Day on 17.09.2021. A mass tree plantation was arranged at various places of VCRI Campus
  • The Department of Veterinary Gynaecology and Obstetrics, Veterinary College and Research Institute, Orathanadu organised a one month on-campus skilled training programme sponsored by Tamil Nadu Livestock Development Agency (TNLDA) under the National Programme for Bovine Breeding (NPBB) for 23 unemployed rural youths on "Artificial insemination in cows" from 22.09.2021 to 21.10.2021
  • Veterinary College and Research Institute, Orathanadu observed vigilance awareness week from 01.11.2021 to 05.11.2021. As a part of the observance, Integrity Pledge, an essay competition on “Role of students in prevention of corruption” and a debate on “To eradicate corruption which one plays an important role – Transparency? or good conduct?” was conducted on 01.11.2021 and 02.11.2021to create awareness about the vigilance
  • The Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension Education, Veterinary College and Research Institute, Orathanadu organized one day training programme on “Integrated Farming System as a tool for Sustainable Livelihood of Farmers in Cauvery Delta Zone of Tamil Nadu” on 17.08.2021 and 18.08.2021 under the sponsorship of Tamil Nadu State Land Use Research Board (TN-SLURB) Govt. of Tamil Nadu. A total of 64 farmers were participated and benefitted.
  • The Department of Veterinary Gynaecology and Obstetrics, Veterinary College and Research Institute, Orathanadu organised three day training programme sponsored by State Agriculture Management and Extension Training Institute (SAMETI) for thirty field Veterinary assistant Surgeons of Tamilnadu on "Application of Diagnostic Imaging in Animal Reproduction" from 02.02.2022 to 04.02.2022.
  • The Fourth Year B.V.Sc & A.H students and faculty members of Veterinary College and Research Institute, Orathanadu viewed the “Pariksha Pe Charcha 2022, a live streaming interaction programme addressed by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modiji, through online on 01.04.2022 which was organized by the Government of India for the benefit of school children of the country. A total of 98 students and faculty members attended the event
  • To commemorate the World Zoonoses Day, a free anti-rabies vaccination camp was conducted at Veterinary College and Research Institute, Orathanadu on 06.07.2022 for the benefit of pet owners of Thanjavur. A total of 164 pets were vaccinated in the programme. Exhibits were displayed and pamphlets related to zoonotic diseases were distributed to public and pet owners.
  • The Department of Veterinary Public Health and Epidemiology, Veterinary College and Research Institute, Orathanadu conducted a one-day awareness workshop programme on “Zoonotic diseases like rabies, leptospirosis and brucellosis”forVeterinary Assistant Surgeons inCauvery Delta region on 27.09.2022 and 28.09.2022 under the NADP/RKVP RAFTAAR (2020-21) scheme on “Establishing Zoonotic Diseases Diagnostic Laboratory in Cauvery Delta Region of Tamil Nadu. A total of 100 veterinarians of Animal Husbandry Department from different parts of Cauvery Delta region participated.
