The Veterinary College and Research Institute, Theni has been established as the sixth constituent college under the aegis of the renowned Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (TANUVAS) at Veerapandi, Theni district. The foundation stone was laid on 10.12.2020. The goal is to provide quality veterinary education to the students, carry out practical and field-oriented research and to transfer the technology to farmers to improve farmers livelihood and rural economy.
The college is established at Veerapandi, Theni and located approximately at a distance of 12 Km from Theni town (Via NH 85 Theni-Cumbum Road) with the total area of 237 acres. On March 9, 2023, through virtual inauguration our Honourable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu officially opened the recently constructed facilities of the Veterinary College and Research Institute, Theni, located in Veerapandi. The permanent campus houses Administrative building, Veterinary Clinical Complex, eight Academic blocks, Livestock Products Technology block, Livestock Farm Complex, boys hostel, girls hostel, Dean’s bungalow, Warden quarters, Deputy Warden quarters and Canteen facilities. VCRI Staff and Students Co-operative store was registered on 12.10.2022 (Reg.No.MP117).
The institute started functioning with the admission capacity of 40 students per year from the academic year 2020-2021 onwards. The B.V.Sc. & A.H. course and academic facilities are being provided to the students as per the Minimum Standards of Veterinary Education (MSVE-2016) upon receiving approval from Veterinary Council of India (VCI). From the academic year 2023-24, the number of students admission has been increased to 80 per year.
Faculty members are in place for all five-year departments including Veterinary Clinical Complex and Livestock Farm Complex. The institute has a well-qualified and dedicated teaching faculty and most of them are PhDs. Many faculty members have acquired their higher education degrees at national and international levels. The non-teaching staff such as Administrative Officer, Accounts Officer, Superintendent, Junior Assistant, Technician and Electrician cum plumber are also in place for the routine administrative activities. Besides, currently, the college has casual labours including drivers for the day-to-day operational activities. Security guards are also in place at college, hostel and farm campus.
