VETERINARY CLINICAL COMPLEX
GENESIS
Teaching Veterinary Clinical Complex has been established on 22.06.2012 and further was renamed as Veterinary Clinical Complex from the professional year 2017-18 as per the VCI revised regulation of MSVE 2016 (USO No.20131/A1/2018, No.6249/ A1/2018, dated 25.05.2018, office of the Registrar, TANUVAS, Chennai – 51) and functioning with the following objectives:
OBJECTIVES
To render clinical services to the public.
To provide clinical training to the undergraduate, post graduate and internship students.
To provide research facilities to the staff and students.
To provide ambulatory clinical services to the public.
To provide farm and pet animal consultancy to the public.
To organize need based training / awareness programmes for the benefit of the veterinary students and veterinary practitioners.
To impart training to overseas students for enhancing their clinical skills.

UNITS FUNCTIONING AT VCC
Out-Patient Unit
Veterinary Clinical Complex is providing clinical services covering Medical, Surgical and Gynecological and Obstetrical cases for the farmers of delta region covering Thanjavur, Thiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Pudukkottai and Tiruchirappalli throughout the year.
In-Patient Unit
Post-operative care and intensive care for critically ill patients are also provided in the in-patient facilities available in the premises.
Ambulatory Unit
VCC extends ambulatory services for the neighboring village - Orantharayankudikadu from Monday to Friday (8.00 AM– 10.00 AM) throughout the year.
Special Diagnostic Unit
Imaging Unit with advanced diagnostic imaging facilities is being developed in the VCC unit viz., Computerized radiographic system, Portable Colour Doppler ultrasound, Echocardiography, C-arm and Video Endoscopy.
Operation Theatre
Completely equipped Operation theatre for small and large animals, viz., Gaseous anaethetic machine for small animals, Orthopedic and Ophthalmic equipments.
Veterinary Diagnostic Lab
Clinical lab with the facilities to handle clinical samples and to carry out basic diagnostic works is established in the unit. Further lab is specially equipped with automated biochemical analyzer and automated hematology analyzer.
Pharmacy
The pharmacy was upgraded to more storage facilities with air condition. Pharmaceutical drugs, hospital consumables and Vaccines are being handled by pharmacy.
Immunization Unit
Provides vaccination for pet animals (DHPPiL and ARV) and Large animals (ARV)
Small animal Critical Care Unit
Small animal Critical Care Unit is equipped with vital sign monitor, Doppler BP and Oxygen supply for the critically ill patient.
Dermatology Unit
Dermatology unit is a separate facility available to diagnose and treat various dermatological cases of pet and large animals.

Internship programmes: B.V.Sc and AH degree students of Madras Veterinary College, Chennai and Veterinary College and Research Institute, Namakkal and Tirunelveli are deputed to this institute regularly for the Internship programme.
Clinical trainings are provided for the students in the OP, Ambulatory and IP sections of the Unit.
Clinical Case presentation for the final year students are being conducted regularly.
EXTENSION AND TRAINING
As part of extension activities mass Contact / Infertility Programmes, Pet Animal Health Camp and Awareness Programme are regularly conducted at VCC, VCRI, Orathanadu.
Hands on training programme to the line department.
Training on Ultrasound examination to the field Veterinarians.
RESEARCH
Field level research works are carried out in the Unit utilizing the available facilities.
Post graduate research programe involving clinical cases are being conducted in the respective units.
Follicular dynamics evaluation: Research being carries out to characterize the changes in follicular blood flow of dominant follicle, during true oestrus, and mid-cycle oestrus in crossbred cattle.
Standardization of large animal abdominal ultrasound in gastrointestinal disorders.
Diagnosis and management of recumbent cow.
Diagnosis of infectious diseases in large animals.
