Veterinary Clinical Complex, Veterinary College and Research Institute, Theni is temporarily functioning at Veterinary Hospital, Periyakulam from 01.02.2021 with the objective of providing quality veterinary clinical services to the livestock and pets and to impart education to the under graduate students.
Veterinary Clinical Complex is providing clinical services covering Medicine, Surgery and Gynaecological and Obstetrical cases for the farmers of Theni and nearby districts. On an average of 178 bovine cases, 152 ovine and caprine cases, 238 canine cases and 232 other cases (equine, avian and feline) are being treated every month in this unit.
Abdominal and Reproductive ultrasonography in cows, dogs and goats are being carried out to diagnose various gastrointestinal problems, hepatic problems, urinary problems, early pregnancy, various infertility problems and to study follicular dynamics.
Various surgeries are being performed on small animals in a temporarily established operation theatre.
A clinical lab with the facilities to handle clinical samples and to carry out basic diagnostic works is established. Every month, on an average of 80 samples are being examined for various diagnosis in this unit.
Veterinary College and Research Institute, Theni conducted a Rabies awareness programme and free vaccination camp in collaboration with Animal Husbandry Department, Theni on16.2.2021 at Veterinary Clinical Complex, Veterinary Hospital Campus, Periyakulam on the eve of “Jiva – Jantu Kalyan Divas”. A Total of 53 (29 males and 24 females) participants attended the programme. The participants were explained about the etiology, transmission and symptoms of rabies in pet and farm animals, importance of vaccination of pet animals, first aid for dog bite and importance of post bite vaccination for human beings, pet and farm animals by the teaching staff of Veterinary Clinical Complex, Veterinary College and Research Institute, Theni.
