VETERINARY CLINICAL COMPLEX


GENESIS

Realizing the need to provide better and effective service to the livestock and pets of this region and to give hands on training to the undergraduate and postgraduate students, the department of Clinics was established in the year 1994 with the deployment of staff from all the clinical subjects viz. Veterinary Gynaecology and Obstetrics, Veterinary Clinical Medicine and Veterinary Surgery and Radiology.

OBJECTIVES

  • To impart clinical training to undergraduate and post graduate students.
  • To treat the animals in the outpatient and Inpatient wards.
  • To equip the hospital with necessary drugs and hospital consumables required for treatment of animals.
  • To render 24 Hours clinical service.
  • To conduct training programme / summer / winter schools for the field veterinarians.
  • To undertake clinical research.

Saturday, Sunday and All Government Holidays 08.00 AM - 11.30 AM

UNITS FUNCTIONING AT VCC

The VCC has 22 units functioning in various buildings. The major units are: apart from Outpatient units it has Clinical laboratory, Casualty unit, Large animal inpatient unit with owner’s rest room, Small and large animal Operation theatre with modern facilities, Referral clinics for small and large animals, Radiology & Physiotherapy unit, Students lecture hall equipped with audio visual aids. Special facilities like De-torsion pit for the correction of uterine torsion in cattle and buffaloes, Aqua Cow floating Tank and Slings for Downer Cows, Colic sand bed pit for horse, Biomedical waste disposal unit, Computerized Tomography unit, Rumen lab and Mastitis unit with ethno-veterinary facilities

HOSPITAL FACILITIES

The hospital provides advanced special diagnostic and treatment facilities like Endoscopy, Ultrasonography, ECG, Diathermy and Cryo-Surgery and Dental Scaling, Small and Large animal surgical services, Contrast radiographic facilities, Physiotherapy, Large animal reproductive Ultrasonography and inhalant anesthetic facilities for small and large animals. The endoscopy unit of this hospital extends its services not only to cattle, buffaloes and dogs but also to equines. Hormonal assays and vaginal exfoliative cytology are carried out routinely to rule out the stage of estrous cycle in canines. The male dogs also examined and treated for infertility. The obstetrical cases like cervico-vaginal prolapse, uterine torsion, dystocia and total uterine prolapse are treated round the clock with advanced facilities. The infertility diagnostic laboratory provides modern diagnostic aids to improve the fertility in large and small ruminants. This hospital has separate units for vaccinating the pet animals and treating the infectious diseases in pet animals.
Using these modern diagnostic and therapeutic modalities, many interesting cases like Canine dilated cardiomyopathy, Splenic and Hepatic tumours in dogs, diaphragmatic herniaand Traumatic pericarditis in bovine, dystocia and uterine torsion in bovine, Fungal Pneumonia in buffalo, Guttural pouch mycosis in horse etc., have been successfully diagnosed and treated at this hospital. Diagnosis, anaesthetic and surgical management of Intussusception in cattle and buffaloes have been standardized here. The hospital is well equipped with all the infra structure facilities for small and large animal Orthopaedics surgery. Modern ophthalmic surgical procedures like Cataract extraction, conjunctival flap for corneal ulcers and Intra Ocular Lens implantation has also been introduced in this hospital recently.

RECENT FACILITIES CREATED

The new facilities created in the hospital campus during the last three years under the ICAR grant are operating microscope, weighing scales for large and small animals, Public address system for the lecture hall, Broad band connectivity and Air-conditioned Endoscopy unit. In the Year 2017-18, Government Tamil Nadu sanctioned Computed Tomography (CT) scan unit to TANUVAS under NABARD scheme and the CT scan unit was installed at Veterinary College and Research Institute, Namakkal and opened on 19.02.2019.

TRAINING PROGRAMMES

The Department offers annual externship training programs to students of Michigan State University, Virginia Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine and Oklahoma state University, USA, Chittagong Veterinary University and Bangladesh Agricultural University, Bangladesh and University of Putra, Malaysia and internship training programs to the students of constituent Veterinary Colleges of TANUVAS. Further the department offers training Programme to Field Veterinarians from Department of Animal Husbandry and Tamil Nadu Co-operative Milk producers Union and also from other states of India.
