DEPARTMEMNT OF ANIMAL HUSBANDRY STATISTICS AND COMPUTER APPLICATIONS



The Department of Animal Husbandry Statistics started functioning from the 15th November 1985.The Department was re-designated as the Department of Animal Husbandry Statistics and Computer Applications in May 2004 and empowering the department to manage the computer centre of the college and also managing computer networking. The activities of this Department are teaching animal husbandry statistics and computer applications to undergraduate and postgraduate students, offering guidance to research students and staff in designing of experiments, processing and interpretation of experimental results and also managing the computer network of the college.

Objectives

  • To teach Animal Husbandry Statistics subject to under graduate (B.V.Sc.,) and post graduate students of Veterinary College and Research Institute, Namakkal
  • To guide both staff and PG scholars in designing their experiments, statistical analysis of the collected data and interpretation of the results
  • To carry out independent research as well as in collaboration of the other departments

Computer Centre

The Veterinary College and Research Institute, Namakkal Computer Centre serves as a central facility for information and communication technology services, providing comprehensive computing, internet browsing, and e-mail facilities to enhance students’ learning capabilities and to strengthen teaching effectiveness and research activities among faculty members.

The institute is equipped with a high-speed 100 Mbps internet connection available round the clock under the “National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT),” thereby supporting various e-Governance and academic initiatives across the campus.

The Computer Centre’s main purposes are

  • To maintain and manage the campus-wide computer network efficiently.
  • To provide easy and reliable access to computing and internet facilities for faculty, students, and staff.
  • To impart computer education and practical exposure to undergraduate and postgraduate students, particularly in the field of animal sciences, through the academic curriculum.
  • To encourage faculty members to develop and effectively utilize multimedia teaching aids, including PowerPoint presentations, using the smart classroom and LCD facilities available in the seminar hall of the Computer Centre.

The Computer Centre is equipped with 18 computer systems for student use, including internet browsing and academic activities. In addition, Wi-Fi connectivity is available throughout the campus, covering academic buildings, students’ hostels, and guest houses, thereby ensuring seamless access to digital resources and online learning facilities. At present, 546 users are connected to the server infrastructure of the campus network.

Education

The Department offers 'Statistics and Computer Applications' part of 'Animal Genetics and Breeding' course for the Undergraduate veterinary Science Students. Besides, the Department offers a compulsory course on 'Statistics' for the Post-Graduate students.


Major Activities

  • Providing hands-on training in computer applications to undergraduate and postgraduate students through the course curriculum.
  • Maintaining round-the-clock internet connectivity with a bandwidth of 100 Mbps across the VC & RI, Namakkal campus.
  • Maintenance and administration of the Local Area Network (LAN) throughout the campus.
  • Providing Wi-Fi connectivity for electronic gadgets used by students and staff members within the campus.
  • Coordinating content updates for the Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University website.
  • Maintaining the online examination server for VC & RI, Namakkal campus.
  • Maintaining the online student feedback system for course teacher evaluation.
  • Facilitating the use of the seminar hall with smart classroom facilities by various departments for undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, seminars, and academic presentations by faculty members and postgraduate students.
  • Providing network printing facilities to various departments of the college.
  • Installation and maintenance of 60 surveillance cameras across the campus premises to monitor the activities of students and staff for effective administration and security.
  • Supporting live telecasting and video conferencing facilities for academic and administrative purposes.
  • Organizing and facilitating regular online meetings and web conferences for academic, research, and administrative activities.

Current Focus

The Department of Animal Husbandry Statistics and Computer Applications has set the following objectives:

  • Offering training on Applied Statistics and Computer Applications in animal sciences to the scientists of SAUs.
