DEPARTMEMNT OF ANIMAL HUSBANDRY STATISTICS AND COMPUTER APPLICATIONS

The Department of Animal Husbandry Statistics started functioning from the 15th November 1985.The Department was re-designated as the Department of Animal Husbandry Statistics and Computer Applications in May 2004 and empowering the department to manage the computer centre of the college and also managing computer networking. The activities of this Department are teaching animal husbandry statistics and computer applications to undergraduate and postgraduate students, offering guidance to research students and staff in designing of experiments, processing and interpretation of experimental results and also managing the computer network of the college.

Objectives

To teach Animal Husbandry Statistics subject to under graduate (B.V.Sc.,) and post graduate students of Veterinary College and Research Institute, Namakkal
To guide both staff and PG scholars in designing their experiments, statistical analysis of the collected data and interpretation of the results
To carry out independent research as well as in collaboration of the other departments

Computer Centre

The Computer Centre of this Department provides a comprehensive computing, browsing and emailing facilities to improve learning capacities among students and teaching effectiveness and research avenues among faculty members. Veterinary College and Research Institute, Namakkal is fully equipped with round the clock internet facility with a speed of 40 Mbps, through “National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT)" which is instrumental in steering e-Government/e-Governance. The major objectives of Computer Centre of Veterinary College and Research Institute, Namakkal are: to maintain campus network; to provide faculty students and staff easy access to computers attached to the network; to instruct both under-graduate and post-graduate students in the use of computers particularly in animal sciences through course curriculum and to encourage faculty to develop and use power point presentations through LCD available at the seminar room of Computer Centre. The Computer Centre has 18 systems for the students to use and to enable browsing. Wi-Fi facilities are available at all building including students’ hostel and guest houses.

Education

The Department offers 'Statistics and Computer Applications' part of 'Animal Genetics and Breeding' course for the Undergraduate veterinary Science Students. Besides, the Department offers a compulsory course on 'Statistics' for the Post-Graduate students.

Provided round the clock internet facilities with a band width of 40 Mbps in the VC & RI, Namakkal campus
Maintenance of Local Area Network in VC & RI campus.
Number of users connected with the server is 453.
Wi-Fi facility for all the electronic gadgets belonging to the students and staffs were provided in VC & RI campus
Facilitates for on-line entry of TANUVAS UG-SIS system.
Coordinates the contents update in TANUVAS website.
Online examination server maintenance for VC & RI, Namakkal campus.
Online student feedback about course teachers’ server maintenance for VC & RI, Namakkal campus.
The seminar room with smart class facilities was utilized by different Departments of this college for under-graduate/post-graduate teaching and conducting seminars by faculty members and post-graduate students.
Provision of network printing facilities to other Departments.
A total of 48 surveillance cameras have been installed in the VCRI, Namakkal premises to monitor the various activities of the students and staff for effective work turnout.
Live telecasting through video conference facilities.
Organized online meetings regularly through web conference for Vetclip - Update Forum.

The Department of Animal Husbandry Statistics and Computer Applications has set the following objectives:

Offering training on Applied Statistics and Computer Applications in animal sciences to the scientists of SAUs.
