The Library of Veterinary College and Research Institute, Tirunelveli was established in 2012 for the exclusive use for the students, research scholars and faculty members of the college. At present, the library is functioning in a total floor space of about 2,081 sq. ft. in the ground and first floors of the Administration Building of VCRI, Tirunelveli. It is equipped with eight computers with Un Interrupted Power Supply and broad band internet facility. The library system and staff is meticulously focused for providing comfortable, user friendly environment so as to enables learning and knowledge creation.
To Create an Institutional Repository to manage, preserve and maintain the digital assets, intellectual output and histories of institutions.
To establish an Open Access Institutional Repository to facilitate growth in research, scholarly communication, academic collaboration, strategic alliances and teaching and learning.

The Library is functioning under the direct control of the Dean, Veterinary College and Research Institute, Tirunelveli. Supported by one University Deputy Librarian and supporting staff.
The Library Committee consists of the Dean, University Deputy Librarian and HODs of various departments as members. The Dean is the Chairman of the Library Committee and University Deputy Librarian is the Convener of the Library Committee.
The University Officers, Professors and Associate Professors can borrow 12 books; Assistant Professors and PG students can borrow six books at a time for a period of 30 days from the library. The UG students are eligible to borrow three books at a time for a period of 10 days.
The library has a collection of about 4550 books. The books collection of the library is regularly updated with the inputs from the students and faculty members. Text and reference books required to meet the requirements of all the B.V.Sc. & A.H. course & M.V.Sc., courses have been procured, processed and kept for use by the library users.
Journals are the medium of scientific communication because of its up-to-datedness. The library subscribes about 7 Journals and magazines and daily newspapers.
The old journals are hardbound and kept as Back Volumes for reference. So far, the library has built up over 104 back volumes of journals.
The Library has 55 CD-ROMs for the users to retrieve necessary data.
Computers in the Library are connected to the internet and have specific resources to aid for research. Photocopying and Printing facilities are available to the library users at nominal charges. To improve the services, multi-colour multi-functional digital copier (scanner, printer and copier) had been added. The students and staff are utilizing the facilities for their reprographic requirements
The Library offers a range of support services for the research activities of the faculty, fellows and students. We provide services, resources, and expertise to support every phase of the research - from discovery and design to creation, strategic positioning and sharing.
MyLOFT (My Library on Fingertips) App was launched for the benefit of research scholars, faculty and PG students for the Remote access to library resources such as E-Books, E-Journals and E-Databases.
The library implemented KOHA which is an integrated Library Management System that supports all housekeeping operations of the library.
The resources of the library in terms of books and other publications have been catalogued and the Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) of the library is made available through the Library Network
Electronic surveillance system has been installed in the library to ensure proper safety and security of the valuable library collection. The system is consisting of IR surveillance cameras and monitors to help the library administration to track the movements of the library users.
RFID Technology of Document Identification and Library Security System have been implemented for the library functions and services, along with the following facilities:
A finger based biometric attendance system has been established at Library. Biometric attendance system is used to mark attendance of all staff members and as well as students. It provides exact information about every body's presence.
The VCRI, Tirunelveli Library periodically conducts information literacy / library orientation programmes to the library users. Guest Lectures & Awareness programmes are also being conducted for the benefit of library users regularly. And also hands on training gave to utilize the library online resources like OPAC, ONOS, Science Direct, Cab Direct Online , ICAR, WHO, OIE, TANUVAS Website E-learning sources, Google Scholar, Google Translator etc.
Book Exhibitions are organized regularly by the Library, VCRI, Tirunelveli for the benefit of students and faculties of the College. Approved Book Sellers of the University participated and displayed the latest books.
