VETERINARY COLLEGE AND RESEARCH INSTITUTE, THENI

The Department of Physical Education at Veterinary College and Research Institute, Theni was established in the year 2021 to take care of the physical and mental health of the budding veterinarians. It has been established with an objective to keep the students healthy and fit and garner the benefits that results from sports activities like balanced mental growth, teamwork, self-discipline, self-confidence etc. This Department has vowed to shape the students into good sports persons. To cater the needs of students and staff,various infrastructure facilities have been created in the campus for sports and games like Cricket, Volleyball, Shuttle badminton, Throw Events and 200 meters track for athletic events.

This department offers sports and games as part of non- credit (0+1) training programmes up to third professional year for the award of Bachelor of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry degree to as per MSVE 2016.
As an important milestone of this Department/College, the very first annual sports day of this institute christened as Radianz for the year 2022 have been organized.The sports day was formally inaugurated by Dr. P. N. Richard Jagatheesan, Dean, VC&RI Theni and Dr. P.TensinghGnanaraj,Registrar, TANUVAS, Chennai had graced the valedictory function by his elegant presence and eloquent speech. The overall championship for men has been clinched by Selvan P. Raja of III year and overall championship for women has been bagged by Selvi J.Shakthi, III year.
Selvan.V.Bharath Kumar, II year brought laurels to the institute by winning GOLD Medal in shuttle badminton singles by participating in Chief Ministers Trophy sports events at Districtlevel. Selvi S.Menaka I year had participated in 25th South Zone National Tennokoit championship 2023organized by Tamilnadu tennikoit Federation and brought honour to the institute by winning GOLD in mixed doubles and Team championship. Both of them have added glorious chapters to still nascent yet rapidly–rising sporting domain of VC&RI,Theni.
The staff cricket team of VC&RI, Theni have added one more feather in the cap of VC&RI, Theni by securing runner-up in TANUVAS Premier League 2023.
At present, Dr.S.T. Bino Sundar, Associate Professor and Head, Department of Veterinary Parasitology is serving as sports secretary and Dr. G. Thirumalaisamy, Assistant Professor, Livestock Farm Complex and Dr. R. Priyadharshini, Assistant Professor, Department of Animal Genetics and Breedingas Assistant sports secretary.
