Research

Veterinary College and Research Institute (VCRI), Orathanadu is committed to conducting need-based and impact-oriented research addressing the challenges of livestock farmers in the Cauvery Delta Region. Through multidisciplinary research programmes supported by national and state funding agencies, the institute contributes to advancements in animal health, livestock production, biotechnology, disease diagnostics, ethnoveterinary medicine and sustainable livestock farming systems

Major research initiatives have led to the establishment of specialized facilities including the Ethnoveterinary Herbal Product Research and Development Centre, Zoonotic Disease Diagnostic Laboratory, and Resource Centre for Pattanam Sheep, strengthening research, diagnostic and extension services in the region.

Currently, several externally funded and student research projects are being carried out in emerging areas such as ethnoveterinary medicine, animal disease diagnostics, antimicrobial resistance, phytogenic therapeutics, animal biotechnology, precision livestock farming, livestock production and health management. These research activities contribute to sustainable livestock development and improved livelihoods of farming communities.
