About Education

Veterinary College and Research Institute (VCRI), Orathanadu is committed to imparting quality veterinary education through a balanced integration of academic excellence, practical training, clinical exposure, research experience and professional skill development. The institute follows the curriculum and academic regulations prescribed by the Veterinary Council of India (VCI) and adopts a student-centric approach to learning, supported by modern teaching facilities, advanced laboratories, livestock farms and experienced faculty members.

Undergraduate Programmes

  • Bachelor of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry (B.V.Sc. & A.H.)
  • Annual intake: 100 students plus 4 NRI students
  • Programme conducted as per the Minimum Standards of Veterinary Education (MSVE) regulations prescribed by the Veterinary Council of India

Postgraduate Programmes

  • Master of Veterinary Science (M.V.Sc.)
  • PG Diploma in Ethno-Veterinary Practice
  • PG Diploma in Ultrasound in Small Animals
  • PG Diploma in Ultrasound in Large Animals

Livestock Farm Complex

The Livestock Farm Complex serves as a valuable teaching, research and demonstration facility for students and farmers.

Placement and Career Development

The Placement Cell facilitates career planning, higher education opportunities and professional development of students. The Cell regularly organizes career guidance programmes, expert lectures, entrepreneurship awareness programmes, industrial exposure visits and interactions with professionals from academia, government organizations and livestock industries. Special emphasis is given to:

Student Achievements

Mr.M.Senthil Kumaran, a student of the 2020–21 batch, secured the All India First Rank in the ICAR–AIEEA (Animal Sciences) examination. In addition, 12 students from the institute qualified for Junior Research Fellowships (JRF) in Animal and Veterinary Sciences.
