Outreach

  • Around 5000 litres of liquid nitrogen is produced every year and supplied to various units for cryopreservation of biological materials.
  • Refresher training to personnel working in frozen semen banks of NDDB on “Breeding Soundness Examination for Breeding Bulls and Laboratory Techniques for Evaluation of Frozen Semen for Quality Assurance”.
  • Training on “Karyotyping, Screening for Inherited Disorders and Parentage Testing”
  • Three One-day programmes on “Training / Human Resource Development Programmes along with awareness programmes on Government policies and plans in SC Clusters” were conducted in Chengalpattu, Vellore and Kancheepuram districts of Tamil Nadu with financial assistance from ICAR Development Grant, New Delhi. A total of 130 SC beneficiaries participated in the training programme and inputs were distributed to them.
  • A total of 7,553 kg of TANUVAS SMART mineral mixture was produced and sold to the livestock farmers. During the reporting period, 404 Dietetic consultancies were given to pet animal owners.
  • Two days Capacity Building Programme on best management practices for Chicken meat shop was conducted under UKRI, GCRF – One health poultry hub project for chicken retail shop workers.
  • Many staff of MVC have participated regularly in live programmes on livestock farming, health care and updation of recent technologies for the benefit of farming community in Doordharshan and All India Radio.
  • Conducted in-service training programmes for the field veterinarians, and specialized programmes for scientific workers on the diagnosis of bacterial and viral diseases.
  • The oral pellet vaccine against Newcastle disease developed is being distributed at free of cost to the farmers of the backyard poultry. The same has also been included as one of the Front-line Demonstration techniques for KVKs under ICAR. This year a total of 66,725 doses of oral pellet vaccine have been distributed through university peripheral centers and KVKs.
  • Training on “Morphological identification of ticks at Genus and Species level” was imparted for 5 days to participants from ICAR-NIVEDI, Bengaluru.
  • A booklet entitled “A quick guide on common ecto-parasiticides for Veterinary use” was prepared for distribution to field veterinarians and students of VLD.
  • Two days training on “Pen-side diagnosis of parasites of zoonotic importance was organised in two batches and 28 participants were benefitted.
  • National Pet Parents Meet was conducted on 02.12.2020 to create awareness on Infectious Diseases of dogs and cats among pet owners through a virtual platform. A total of 243 pet parents attended from different parts of the country and got their doubts clarified on nutrition and management of infectious diseases associated with dogs and cats.
  • Free Anti-Rabies Vaccination Camp” was conducted at Madras Veterinary College Campus, Chennai on 28/09/2021.
  • Rabies Awareness poster presentation was conducted for School children on 29/09/2021.
  • Conducted Pet Parents - Vet Meet” at Madras Veterinary College Campus, Chennai on 29/09/2021 to create awareness among pet parents about Infectious diseases of dogs and cats.
  • An awareness programme on “Commit Mask Omit Omicron” was conducted on 11th and 12th of January, 2022 at MVC Teaching Hospital and face masks were distributed to the pet owners and front line workers.
