NCC & NSS


National Cadet Corps (NCC)

  • NCC is offered as one of the compulsory co-curricular activities for students admitted from 2009-10.
  • The senior division (SD) R&V Sqn NCC unit of Madras Veterinary College consisting of two companies commanded by Associate NCC Officer is attached to 1 (TN) Remount and Veterinary Squadron.
  • Presently, the unit is functioning with 160 cadets (87 SD boy cadets and 73 SW girl cadets)
  • The cadets are trained in various basic military training like drill, weapon training, field training, map reading, self defense, first aid, hygiene and sanitation and leadership. Under special core training, the cadets are trained in equestrian skill and mastery in horsemanship.
  • Ninety-nine students successfully completed the Cadre camp - 2021 organized by 1 (TN) R&V Sqn NCC unit of Group Madras “A” Group. A total of 54 students from 2019-20 batch and 35 students from 2020-21 batch were qualified the “B” and “C” certificate examinations respectively, held in the month of March 2021.

National Service Scheme (NSS)

  • NSS is offered as one of the compulsory co-curricular activities for students admitted from 2009-10. Around 400 students have enrolled in NSS units.
  • The NSS units regularly conduct camps mainly aimed at Swatch Bharath, tree plantation, blood donation, animal welfare, preparation of value-added products, nature awareness programmes and on such other themes. Regular camps are organized by the NSS units in various places in Chennai, Tiruvallur and Kancheepuram districts
  • The units have adopted six villages in Thiruvallur district and served significantly by conducting special camps and awareness programmes on animal production, health and various social issues on World Veterinary Day, World Zoonoses Day, World and National Milk day and World Environment day during the year 2020-22.
