Clinical Services

  • Quality clinical services have been offered to 2,22,245 farm and pet animals during 2020-22 which includes 16,342 cattle, 317 buffaloes, 3,806 horses, 851 sheep, 6,394 goats, 1,86,349 dogs, 1,762 cats, 8,534 birds and 887 other cases
  • Anti-rabies vaccination was done for 19,124 large and small animals and 5,943 birds were vaccinated with RDVK vaccine.
  • Health care was provided to Army, RPF, CRPF, CISF and TN Police dogs and horses.
  • A total of 248 cases were treated as in-patient, which includes 138 dogs, 12 cats, 73 cattle and 25 horses

Library

  • Madras Veterinary College Library established during 1903 and is one of the prestigious assets, keeping pace with the electronic and digital library technologies. The whole library is fully air-conditioned. Second floor has book transaction counter, book section, reference section, OPAC unit, SC/ST book bank, reading hall and own book reading section. The third floor has the current journal section, back volume section, digital knowledge resource centre, reprographic unit and binding unit
  • The library has around 41,767 books, 30,000 journal back-volumes, 3,285 digitalized postgraduate thesis and 185 CD-ROMs. About 350 e-books are subscribed and web links created to access more than 30,000 full-text free e-books available. Some old and rare books free from copyright were digitized and made available through the e-Book Gateway of the Library OPAC. 35 OPAC terminals have been provided for the use of library members
  • A total of around 4000 theses are made available on the OPAC up to abstract level. Full-text access to about 2,72,599 Ph.D. thesis of various SAUs is available through Krishikosh database
  • The library also subscribes to 33 Indian print journals. At present online access is available for 70 foreign journals in addition to 2900+ electronic journals available under Consortium for e-Resources in Agriculture (CeRA)
  • e-Journal gateway had been developed to access about 6,500 free full-text open access electronic journals. A total of 715 books were added to the library during 2020-22
