The heritage of Madras Veterinary College Hostel is as old as the college itself which dates back to inception in 1903. The MVC Hostel that was started in 1905 in a dormitory over the Dobbin hall with just six students has now blossomed in to a sprawling 11.4 acre campus with capacity of accommodating more than 1000 students in eight blocks named after beautiful flowers viz.

From the academic year 2009-10, NRI students are admitted and additional facilities to comfortably accomodate NRI students have been created
Hostel Rules
The rules prescribed by the TANUVAS are strictly adhered to ensure smooth functioning of the hostel and to give a homely environment with maximum comfort to the inmates.
All inmates are compulsorily required to dine in the mess. Wastage of food must be avoided
Parents are encouraged to visit their son/daughter atleast once in 3 months
Visitors time at the Visitor's Hall is from 4.00 p.m. to 6.30 p.m. on week days and 8.00 a.m to 6.30 p.m. on holidays
Every inmate is required to behave and conduct himself / herself well in the hostel
Disciplinary action which would amount to suspension / expulsion / rustication from the hostel/college will be taken against those found guilty of misconduct in the hostel
Inmates are strictly prohibited from indulging in any kind of political or communal activities in the hostel
Stringent action will be taken against those indulging in ragging of junior students. Ragging is punishable by law
Students should stay in the alloted rooms only and interchange of furniture and rooms should not be made without permission. Scribbling on walls is punishable
Students should not consume alcohol or resort to any type of intoxication inside the hostel premises
Inmates must handle furniture, TV, electrical fittings etc. carefully. If the inmate damages the furniture, TV, electrical fittings etc., the cost of repair/replacement charges will be recovered from the concerned inmate
Misuse of hostel property is an offence and those found guilty will be punished suitably
Inmates are advised not to keep valuables including jewellery, high end mobiles in the rooms. The administration shall not take responsibility for the loss of any such kind
Students should not entertain guests in their rooms without prior permission and payment of guest charges (Rs.50 / day)
Students who move out of the hostel during late hours should sign in the late entry register without fail. Lady students should get prior permission from the hostel authorities
Girl students must return to the hostel before 7.00 p.m. and late permission up to 8.00 p.m. is allowed twice a month, after making necessary entries in the movement register, which is scrutinized by the lady deputy wardens
Girl students will be allowed to stay over night in their authorised local guardian's house only twice a month with prior permission from the Lady warden.
The gates of the Ladies Hostel will be closed at 7.00 p.m. daily
Inmates are prohibited from taking food to their rooms, except sick diet with prior permission
Letter for reduction of mess fees should be given at least one day in advance
Mess dues intimation will be display in the hostel office before 15th of every month. Mess dues have to be cleared by every inmate before 10th of succeeding month
All payments have to be credited in the bank or through crossed demand draft drawn in favour of "The Warden, Mess Account (132), Union Bank of India, Madras Veterinary College, Chennai - 600 007". Though payment is allowed up to the end of succeeding month, a late fee of Re.1/- per day will be charged thereafter
Payment of mess bill is now made easy. The remittance of hostel monthly mess fee etc. may be paid from outstation, as under: a) Union Bank to Union Bank : A/c No. 332902011000132. While remitting the fees in the above account, student name and student. I.D. number should be mentioned in the challan. b) Other bank to Union Bank : IFSC No. UBIN0557056 with 15 digit A/c No. 332902011000132. While remitting the fees in the above account student name and student I.D. number should be mentioned in the challan
Students are instructed to keep their room neat and tidy.
Parents are requested to avoid providing high CC bikes to their wards, considering the on road safety. Inmates owning vehicle must register them at warden office and should possess legally valid document
Administration
The Dean, Madras Veterinary College is overall in charge of the Hostel
The student welfare activities in the hostel are planned, executed and supervised by a team headed by the Warden and assisted by four men Deputy Wardens and three Lady Deputy Wardens
Warden and Deputy Wardens are residing in the hostel campus itself. Hence inmates can approach them 24x7 for any requirement
Hostel office functions between 11.00 a.m and 7.00 p.m.
Hostel Mess
There are two separate messes with dining facilities for boys (B mess) and girls (A mess) managed by students on dividend system, with the guideship of Deputy Warden for mess
Separate dining halls are also available for postgraduate students
Students are provided hygienic and nutritious vegetarian / non-vegetarian dishes and a monthly feast which richly appeals to the taste buds of the connoisseurs also held
Both messes are furnished with modular kitchen and automated machines
FSSAI CERTIFICATE
Food Safety and Standards Authority of India inspected Madras Veterinary College hostel mess and awarded prestigious eat right CAMPUS Certificate
Of the 39 institutions inspected by the FSSAI in India, Madras Veterinary College hostel mess is the first government institution to be awarded eat right CAMPUS certificate

A healthcare centre with necessary medical facilities is functioning for the benefit of the students
A medical officer is visiting the hostel campus periodically for the benefit of the students

Student counselling centre is functioning for the psychosocial well being of the students
A psychological counsellor is visiting the hostel campus periodically
Civil service aspirants club
Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam civil service aspirants club with library facilities was established for those appearing for competitive examinations
TV and Washing machine
Every block is furnished with TV hall and newspaper reading table facilities
Washing machines available in various blocks of the hostel
Sports facilities
Indoor games such as Chessboards, Table Tennis, Badminton and Outdoor games like Volley ball, Basket ball facilities are available. An indoor stadium with modern gym equipments for boys and girls
Sports and cultural competitions held among students to encourage extracurricular talents
Hostel day
Hostel day will be celebrated every year with great pomp and glory which provides a great source of entertainment and talent show for the students
Precautions and sanitary measures
Hostel premises are sprayed with disinfectant periodically
The students are tested for covid and if there is any positive case, isolated in the separate room with hospitality
Awareness on social distancing and other covid preventive measures are done periodiacally

Kalaimagal Kazhagam
Kalaimagal Kazhagam provides novels, books and journals for the enrichment and cultural knowledge gain through literary competitions.
Eco club
Kitchen garden and compost units are maintained by students as a part of eco club
Various clubs like Eco club, Arts club, and Entertainment club are functioning for the benefit of students
College campus is enriched with trees and ornamental plants to make the campus green and eco friendly
Rain water harvesting system is installed in 19 places inside the hostel as an eco friendly measure
