GENESIS

The scheme for “Control of Abortion in Cattle” of University Training and Research Centre, Erode was redesignated as University Training and Research Centre and transferred to Salem on 25.11.1994. This centre was renamed as Veterinary University Training and Research Centre (VUTRC), Salem on 08.04 1999 and now its functioning under Directorate of Extension Education, Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Chennai – 600 051.
This Centre renders services to the farming community and strives to suggest solution to the location specific problems. This centre also motivates and encourages the farmers in establishing livestock and poultry farms for self-employment through training and advisory services.


Location

Veterinary University Training and Research Centre (VUTRC) is functioning in a new building in Veterinary Hospital Complex (Near Collectorate), Brett's Road, Salem – 636 001, from August 2012.

OBJECTIVES

  • Transfer of livestock and poultry related technologies including natural resources management through front line extension / change agents
  • Strengthening livestock and poultry research – extension linkage for developing need specific technologies
  • Promotion of livestock production eco-system through TANVUAS / entrepreneurs for sustaining livestock based livelihoods

Services offered

  • Regular On campus and Off campus training programs on dairying, sheep and goat farming, pig farming, rabbit farming, poultry farming, preparation of value added milk products for farmers, Self Help Group women and unemployed youths.
  • To conduct Central and state Government sponsored training programs to the farmers in specified areas of livestock and poultry rearing.
  • To act as a two way channel between University and the farmers to identify the field based livestock and poultry problems and also to pass on the remedial measures.
  • To ensure an immediate and the through diagnosis of disease in the event of an outbreak with special emphasis on disease reporting system.
  • To conduct on farm trails on the latest research findings of the University and field oriented problems specific to the area.
  • Preparation of bankable project proposals on livestock and poultry rearing on cost basis.
  • Model fodder and azolla plots, Livestock housing models such as Slatted Floor House for Goats, Low Cost PVC Inclined Battery Cages for Rabbit, Rural Poultry cage, chicken brooder and egg candler model are displayed at the centre for the benefit of the farmers.

Education

  • TANUVAS certified Self employment courses are conducted for interested people on livestock and poultry farming and value addition of livestock products.
  • The applications in this connection are invited throughout the year and processed through the Directorate of Distance Education (DDE), TANUVAS, Chennai. The fee structure followed is as per the TANUVAS norms.

  • The centre is acting as co-coordinating centre for NADP Scheme on, "Revitalising Dairy Cattle through TANUVAS Grand supplement to Enhance the Productivity and Profitability".
