GENESIS

Veterinary University Training and Research Centre (VUTRC), Perambalur was created as per the G.O. (Ms) No. 109 dated 24.03.2013, of the Secretary, Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries (AH6), Government of Tamil Nadu & with University Order No. 50106/G1/2013 & Proc. No. 27513/G1/2012-2 dated 03.06.2013 of the Registrar, TANUVAS. This center was functioning in a rental building since 22.06.2013 and in permanent building since 13.11.2015 under Directorate of Extension Education, Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Chennai-600051.

Location

The Veterinary University Training & Research Centre is located 2 km away from Prembalur on NH – 45 and functioning at No. 4/221, Indhra Nagar (Opp.To Sengunam Kaikatti), Elambalur (Post), Perambalur - 621 220. This centre have well established infrastructural facilities such as training hall equipped with audio, video & multimedia facilities and laboratory with basic equipments to perform microbiological tests in aseptic condition.

OBJECTIVES

Transfer of livestock and poultry related technologies including natural resources management through front line extension / change agents
Strengthening livestock and poultry research – extension linkage for developing need specific technologies
Promotion of livestock production eco-system through TANVUAS / entrepreneurs for sustaining livestock based livelihoods

Activities carried out by the centre

This centre disseminates scientific farming technologies and innovative research findings to the livestock farming community. This centre strives to suggest solutions to the location specific problems by conducting On Farm Trail and Front Line Demonstration. This centre also motivates and encourages the farmers to become entrepreneur through training and advisory services. The Centre caters to the needs of the livestock and poultry farmers like training, consultancy, setting up of new farms, offering follow-up service and providing project reports etc.
The centre is adopting one village a year with the objective of integrated development of the village. This would include economic development, infrastructure development and other aspects of human development i.e., education, health, drinking water supply, etc., besides access to credit.
The faculties of the centre regularly delivered radio talks on season based advisories, general management and health care of livestock and poultry are recorded and broadcast through All India Radio, Trichy regularly for the benefit of farmers. .
The centre creates awareness through Social Media (VUTRC Perambalur Farmers WhatsApp group) from January 2020 with 350 farmers. Popularization of scientific technologies developed in the University is regularly disseminated and also facilitates marketing of livestock farm produce through this group.
The centre is providing regular off / on campus training programme to the beneficiaries of Priceless Milch cow and Priceless Goat distribution schemes of the Govt. of TamilNadu in collaboration with Animal Husbandry Department, of Perambalur and Ariyalur district.
The centre is extending its technical support for livestock / poultry development through livelihood schemes by State Agriculture department / ATMA scheme/ other line Departments/ Developmental agencies.
