DEPARTMENT OF VETERINARY AND ANIMAL HUSBANDRY EXTENSION EDUCATION


Genesis

The Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension Education was started in the year 2013 with an aim to teach under graduate students in the aspects of sociology, rural development, adoption and diffusion of innovation on management of extension programmes etc. The department also carries out need based extension research and organise extension programmes on behalf of the College.


Objectives

  • To offer undergraduate courses in Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension.
  • To undertake research in Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension.
  • To organise various extension programmes on livestock and poultry production for the benefit of farming Community.

Education

As per the VCI Regulation, the department is offering the following courses.

  • Under Graduate Course: III Professional Year - Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension Education (3+1 credit hours)
  • Post Graduate Course: Technical Writing and Communication Skills (PGS 602:0+1 credit hours)

Research

The thrust areas of research in Animal husbandry extension being undertaken by the department are

  • Establish a translational platform for need based research and dissemination of proven technologies.
  • Applications of Information and Communication technologies (ICT) in Animal Husbandry Extension .
  • Socio-Economic studies on Livestock and Poultry enterprises.
  • Training of farmers, Potential entrepreneurs, Rural women and youths for Scientific Livestock farming.
  • Impact evaluation studies of technological interventions in Livestock and Poultry sector.
  • Economic evaluation of diseases in Livestock and Poultry sector.

The department organises various extension programmes on livestock and poultry production as per the details furnished below.

  • Conduct of on- campus and off- campus training programmes.
  • Conduct of specialised training programmes for the beneficiaries of various government schemes and line departments.
  • Exhibitions.
  • Mass contact programmes / Campaigns.
  • Demonstrations.
  • Publications of farm literatures.
  • Field trips / study tours etc.,
  • Television and radio programmes.
  • On - farm testing.
  • Sale of University Publications / Products.
  • Guided visits.
  • Preparation of Bankable Project proposal for livestock farm establishments.

Infrastructure

The department of veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension Education is well established with laboratories and each furnished with modern equipments required for teaching of students and executing all the other extension activities carried out by the department viz.,

  • Photography cum Graphic unit (With Lighting facility aiding recording/ Photography along with Work station for editing / Recording facilities)
  • Audio Visual Technology Laboratory (Roof mounted Projector and screen, PA system, Audio mixture etc.,)
  • Group Discussion / Seminar / Conference Room (With Video Conferencing Facilities and roof mounted projector along with motorised screen, PA system, Audio mixture etc.,)
  • Museum cum Livestock advisory Unit with LCD television and blue ray disc Player for playing Education Video lessons for visiting farmers besides educational charts, library etc.,
