STUDENTS HOSTEL


Hostel Facilities

The Veterinary College and Research Institute Hostel for boys and girls is at VCRI campus, V. Koot Road, Salem. The girls hostel consists of 105 rooms and boy’s hostel has a total of 70 rooms; total of 346 students are accommodated in hostel. Both hostels have up to III floor.



Boys Hostel

This block has been constructed in an area of 50216.92 sq.ft (Ground floor- 18485.68 sq.ft, First floor-16301.40 sq.ft and Second floor- 15429. 84sq.ft). It has 70 rooms each of three occupancy. In addition, it houses Dining Hall, Kitchen, Store room, Warden and deputy Wardens’ rooms, Warden office, Guest rooms and Sick room.

Girls Hostel

This hostel has been constructed in a total area of 44662.61sq.ft. (Ground floor- 15953.85 sq.ft, First floor-14693.86 sq.ft and Second floor-14693.86 sq.ft). It has 105 rooms each of two occupancies. In addition, it houses Dining Hall, Kitchen, Store room, Deputy Warden room, Guest rooms and Sick rooms.

ACCOMMODATION:

Boys hostel constructed in an area of 50216.92 sq.ft can accommodate 210 students in 70 rooms and Girl’s hostel in a total area of 44662.61sq.ft. can accommodate 210 students in 105 rooms. Both the hostels are equipped with modern kitchen and mess, Sick room, Deputy warden room, Warden office, Visitors (Parents) room. Presently, 346 students are residing in the hostel which includes undergraduate (127 boys and 219 girls) students.

MESS DINING FACILITIES

The mess has centralized kitchen facilities with all advanced and automated kitchen equipment and appliances like a steam generator, rice cooking and multipurpose vessel, dough kneading machine, milk boiling vessels, heavy mixer motor with coconut scraper and idly cooking pot (200 numbers at a time) are available. Healthy food is being prepared in the boy’s hostel and served to the students in a hygienic manner. Mess is run by the students under the supervision of Deputy Warden (Mess) Dr. C. Vijayakumar and student hostel Mess Secretaries and representatives. The hostel Mess Secretaries and representatives from each year are selected based on individual willingness. The food menu was prepared by the students according to their taste.

Food Safety and Standards Authority of India License Under FSS Act, 2006 (FSSAI)

FSSAI Committee visited the hostel in connection with the issue of the FSSAI certificate and monitored the facilities available in the hostel and cleanliness in the hostel and mess premises.

The FSSAI certificate was obtained for the hostel on 10thJune 2022 after complete monitoring. The Certificate was renewed on 15.04.2025 with the validity upto 09.06.2028.

AMENITIES PROVIDED TO HOSTEL STUDENTS FOR THIS REPORTING PERIOD

1. Students’ mess had been started from 1.2.2026.
2. Due to middle asia crisis and gas cylinder scarcity a Boiler and 3 stoves using fire wood also had been installed in march 2026.
3. Each hostel has been provided with geyser to supply hot water
4. RO systems have been installed in boys hostel mess for drinking water and preparation of food (250 litres of water per hour)
5. RO unit in boys and girls Hostel Mess (50 litres per hour)
6. Water coolers in each floor of the hostel
7. Washing machines (Three Numbers) have been provided in each hostel
8. Four fly catchers (Pesto- O- Flash) were kept in Mess premises
9. Mosquito Netlon for Boys and Girls hostel.
10. Four airport visitors’ chairs provided in the visitors lounge area
11. Each student is provided with a steel cot, table and chair
12. Each hostel building has a recreation hall with a color television with a cable connection
13. Sanitary napkin incinerators (six numbers) are provided in girl’s hostel
14. Newspapers Hindu and Dinathanthi are provided.
15. Care takers are provided for day and night.
16. Security personnel are guarding the hostel premises round the clock
17. Surveillance camera was installed both in boys (10 Nos) and girls’ hostel (14 Nos.) at different places/ locations for surveillance, watching, and ward further to monitor the movement of men and materials.
18. Two geysers have been fixed for the Internees.

UNINTERRUPTED POWER SUPPLY

An uninterrupted power supply is being provided to the student’s hostel by installing a 15 KV Generator to provide comfort and a conducive environment for their study.

MEDICAL EMERGENCY

Whenever the students have any health issue/ medical emergency, medical care is given to them by taking them to the nearest hospital by our college vehicle. Any one of the faculty also accompanied the students for their help and continuous monitoring during the treatment period.

SANITARY MEASURES ADOPTED

The hostel campus is maintained highly hygienic with periodical sanitation twice a month. The hostel surroundings are kept clean and tidy by clearing the bushes fortnightly.

STUDENTS WELFARE AND SAFETY

All the hostellers are not allowed to go outside the premises without prior permission of the deputy wardens with duly signed passes. They are requested to make proper entry in the register in the security point. The girls are allowed outside the premises only before 6.30 pm and boys 7.30 pm. There also biometric entry point at the gate for the students with SMS facilities to their respective parents.
