Department of Veterinary Microbiology
The Department of Veterinary Microbiology was started in June 2012 at VCRI, Orathanadu, Thanjavur District, Tamilnadu, a constituent unit of TANUVAS, Chennai. The Department of Veterinary Microbiology was established during the year 2012 for offering undergraduate B.V.Sc courses. Apart from undergraduate teaching, the Department involves in the research, disease investigation, clinical samples analysis, current knowledge on the antibiogram of the isolated organisms. The Department has a sanctioned strength of one Professor, one Associate Professor and two Assistant Professors.
OBJECTIVES
To offer quality education in Veterinary Microbiology to Undergraduate and Post graduate students as per the MSVE-2016 and ICAR pattern
To carryout research with financial assistance from the University / External funding agencies.
To develop cost effective diagnostics and vaccine for the farmers
To transfer of technologies to farmers for improved health of livestock
Laboratory Facilities
The following diagnostic Services are being offered to the Line Departments and constituent units of College
Disease investigation and outbreaks-Government farms and Private livestock farms
Animal Disease Intelligence Unit of Thanjavur, Tiruvarur and Nagapattinam
Backyard poultry farms & collection of samples from Sandies

TVCC, VCRI, Orathanadu
VPP, VCRI, Orathanadu
Conducting antibiotic sensitivity tests from all Veterinary Clinician centres of Cauvery Delta Region of Tamilnadu
Veterinary University Disease Diagnosis Laboratory (VUDDL)
To establish a disease diagnostic laboratory facility including bacteriology and serology units
To perform bacteriology, serology and antibiogram for economically important diseases affecting livestock and poultry
To offer diagnostic service to the livestock farmers of Cauvery Delta Region
Periodical collection and processing of clinical samples from line departments, peripheral VUTRC’s and Veterinary Dispensaries in Cauvery Delta Region and attending disease investigations/disease outbreaks are being carried out to perform bacteriology, serology, antibiogram, detection of antigens and antibodies for economically important diseases affecting livestock and poultry.
