The Veterinary College and Research Institute, Orathanadu Library plays a vital role in the collection, development and dissemination of Veterinary and Animal Science. Information to meet the present and future needs of the Institute. The Library was established in the year 2012. The area of library is around 8,037.30 Square feet, is functioning in second floor main building and partitioned into different sectionssuch as Circulation section, E-resources centre, Reference Section, Stack Section, Journal Section, and Learning centre for competitive exams. The library has a rich collection of books and journals in the field of Veterinary Science. Facilities are also provided to students and faculty for access to internet and online journals, general knowledge and history books and in the field of veterinary science books. The Library has been automated with Koha Integrated Library Management System and Online Public Access Catalogue facility extended to the library users.
OBJECTIVES
to support the educational and research programs of the Veterinary College and Research Institute by providing access to information consistent with the present and anticipated educational and research functions of this institute.
Library Committee
The Library Committee consists of the Dean, Professor and Head of various faculties of the College and University Assistant Librarian. The Dean is the Chairman of the Library Committee and Officer-in-charge of the Library is Convenor of the Library Committee. The Library Committee meeting is being organized every three months to develop and improve the entire Library activities.

Monday to Friday : 09.00 a.m. to 08.00 p.m.
Saturdays : 09.00 a.m. to 05.00 p.m.
Sunday : 09.00 a.m. to 02.00 p.m.
Library Rules
Entry without proper dress code is prohibited
Users of the library are requested to keep their belongings in the property counter
Students should register their entry in the gate entry register whenever they access the library
Absolute silence should be maintained in around the library
Check the condition of books before leaving the counter
Students should wrap the books borrowed by them to avoid mutilation and damage
Books must be returned on or before the due date prescribed
Loss of any books and borrower’s tickets should be immediately reported to the Officer in-charge /Assistant Librarian.

LIBRARY FACILITIES
Reprographic Facilities: Two Photocopier machine is available in the Library for taking photocopies at nominal charges for students and staff.
Browsing Facility: Broadband facility is provided to the staff and students of this college at free of cost through 10 computer port.
Library Automation:The circulation activities of the library had been automated terms of books catalogued and using ”KOHA Integrated Library Management System” for students and staff.
Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC): The Resources of the library in the Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) of the library is made available through the Library Network
Electronic Surveillance System of CCTV Network :A Surveillance system with CCTV network had been installed at the Library to enhance and tighten the security system. In this network, 11Nos. of cameras were installed at appropriate places of Library for recording the movements which will occur during working hours of the Library on all working days.
Consortium for e-Resources in Agriculture (CeRA):Consortium for e-Resources in Agriculture (CeRA), an online journal consortium funded under NAIP of ICAR. CeRA provides access to about 2922 online journals covering various disciplines of agricultural sciences including veterinary and animal sciences. http://jgateplus.com/search/
