Genesis

The Centre for Stem Cell Research and Regenerative Medicine, Madras Veterinary College, Chennai has been established by the Govt. of Tamil Nadu in the year of 2013, exclusively to carryout research in the area of Stem cells and regeneration in the context of development and modeling human/animal diseases. The centre is having a separate state of art cGMP facility equipped with all the cutting edge tools to carry out isolation and characterization of stem cells and subsequent translation to clinics as a therapeutic approach.

Objectives

  • To develop a centre for stem cell research by building interdisciplinary collaborations and partnerships.
  • To evolve strategies to use multiple sources of stem cells for treatment of diseases of multiple systems.
  • To promote tissue engineering for organogenesis and evolve clinical protocols in the area of regenerative medicine for treatment of neurological disorders including spinal cord injury, joint diseases, diseases of the eye, renal and hepatic failure, diabetes, etc.
  • To evolve human resources in the field of stem cell research and regenerative medicine
  • To serve as a leader for animal models research in the area of stem cells and regenerative medicine and fulfill the need for translational research.
