GENESIS

The Emergency and Critical care unit caters to a large number of critically ill small and large animal patients on a daily basis. In addition to treating critically ill and trauma cases and inpatient cases, the unit also treats emergency cases brought to the unit by welfare groups and livestock owners. The unit also receives referred cases from throughout the state. The unit is also being used to train undergraduate students, internees and post-graduate students on the basics of critical care. On an average, the unit receives about 10000 cases every year.

Emergency and Critical Care Unit - Working Hours

Monday-Friday: 1.00 PM – 8.00 AM

Saturday, Sunday and All Government Holidays: 11.30 AM - 08.00 AM

OBJECTIVES

  • To provide Veterinary care to critically ill patients brought to the Emergency and Critical Care Unit.
  • To attend the Surgical, Obstetrical and Medical emergency cases round the clock.
  • Admission of cases suspected for Rabies under UOR (Under Observation for Rabies)
  • To provide Emergency Veterinary care during Emergency and Critical Care Unit working hours to large and small inpatient animals.
  • To train the B.V.Sc., internees of various Veterinary Colleges in handling Veterinary emergency cases.
  • To arrange for conducting post mortem at the Department of Pathology, as and when the carcasses are brought during Emergency and Critical Care Unit hours.
  • To advise needy farmers and pet animal owners on vaccination schedule, deworming and management to keep them healthy.
  • To study the incidence of various emergencies Medical, Surgical and Obstetrical reported to the Emergency and Critical Care Unit.
  • To conduct training programme for the faculty members, field and practicing veterinarians
