The Emergency and Critical care unit caters to a large number of critically ill small and large animal patients on a daily basis. In addition to treating critically ill and trauma cases and inpatient cases, the unit also treats emergency cases brought to the unit by welfare groups and livestock owners. The unit also receives referred cases from throughout the state. The unit is also being used to train undergraduate students, internees and post-graduate students on the basics of critical care. On an average, the unit receives about 10000 cases every year.
