The Department of Livestock Business Management was started as a unit of Madras Veterinary College on 22.11.2010.
Objectives
To develop livestock and poultry farm plans and distribute required project proposals to the aspiring farmers / entrepreneurs / rural youth / farm women
To establish linkages with the livestock and poultry related industries for exploring avenues of employment for the graduates of veterinary and animal sciences by organizing campus interviews
To promote entrepreneurship qualities among the students of veterinary and animal sciences by offering training programmes and guest lectures on soft skills development and personality development
To encourage students of veterinary and animal sciences through motivational / guest lectures to go in for higher studies and to seek employment outside the domain of livestock and poultry sub-sectors
ACTIVITIES
Education
Offer UG / PG / PGDBM courses in related disciplines like Animal Husbandry Economics, Animal Husbandry Statistics and Computer Applications and Business Management for the students of Veterinary and Animal Sciences
Arrange for guest lectures to the students of Veterinary and Animal Sciences by inviting experts from banking and insurance sectors and veterinary and animal sciences related fields and industries
Arrange for field visits for students to ensure exposure to the field realities
Improve soft skills and personality through various training / development programmes
Research
Involve in research in related disciplines like Animal Husbandry Economics, Animal Husbandry Statistics and Computer Applications and Business Management, by implementing research projects and co-guiding research students
Extension:

Offer farm planning and consultancy services to livestock farmers, entrepreneurs, school drop outs and rural women
Mass contact programmes and education campaign to disseminate the knowledge on infectious diseases control measures to the farming community
Regularly conducting Pet Parents Meet at State and National level to create awareness on important Infectious diseases of companion animals
Conducting knowledge sharing programme to the students, faculties and researchers through seminar, workshop and conference
Organizing ASCAD training programme jointly with state animal husbandry department on infectious diseases of farm animals for State Veterinary Doctors
Faculties of this discipline attending Infectious Disease Unit of Madras Veterinary College Teaching Hospital and focusing on recent research and therapeutic approaches on Canine parvo viral enteritis and canine distemper
