KRISHI VIGYAN KENDRA, Kallakurichi (Villupuram II)

GENESIS

ICAR - Krishi Vigyan Kendra (Villupuram-II), Kallakurichi is a district level Farm Science Centre established by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) under host Institute of Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Chennai for testing and transfer of Agricultural /Animal husbandry technologies to bridge the gap between production and productivity and to increase self-employment opportunities. This KVK, established on 18.02.2019, is the grassroot level vocational training centre in Kallakurichi district. The trainings offered here follow the principles of “Learning by doing” and “seeing is believing”. It offers skill and knowledge-oriented trainings in multidisciplinary areas like Agronomy, Plant protection, Horticulture, Animal Sciences, Fisheries and Home Science. The KVK acts as the light house of knowledge to the farming community of the Kallakurichi district.

MANDATES

The overall mandate of the KVK is to develop and disseminate location specific technological modules at district level through Technology Assessment, Refinement and Demonstration and to act as Knowledge and Resource Centre for agriculture and its allied activities. The specific activities to carry out the mandate are:

Conducting On-farm testing to identify the location specificity of agricultural technologies under various farming systems.
Organizing Frontline Demonstrations to establish production potential of various crops and enterprises on the farmers’ fields.
Organizing need-based training of farmers to update their knowledge and skills in modern agricultural technologies related to technology assessment, refinement and demonstration and training of extension personnel to orient them in the frontier areas of technology development.
Creating awareness about improved technologies to larger masses through appropriate extension programmes.
Production and supply of good quality seeds and planting materials, livestock, poultry and fisheries breeds and products and various bio-products to the farming community.
Work as resource and knowledge centre of agricultural technology for supporting initiatives of public, private and voluntary sector for improving the agricultural economy of the district.

Conduct of sponsored training, extension functionaries training and paid training to various category of people
Sale of TANUVAS Mineral mixture, Salt lick, Vermicompost, Azolla, different fodder seeds, vegetable seeds and seedlings
To provide farm advisory services through direct in-person, telephone and whatsapp
Conduct of Mass Contact Programme
Diagnostic field visits/ farms visits and offer advisory services
Arrange of Exhibition and method demonstration
Preparation of project report for farmers to obtain bank loan for establishment of new farm
Attend disease investigation during out breaks
