GENESIS

KrishiVigyan Kendra, Kundrakudi was commissioned on 21.09.1996 and is functioning under the Director of Extension Education, Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Chennai – 600 051. KVK is located at Kundrakudi, which is about 12 kms from Karaikudi and 64 kms from Sivagangai. Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Kundrakudi was fully funded by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi. Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Kundrakudi is the grassroot level vocational training centre in the state of Tamil Nadu. This centre acts as a bridge for transfer of advanced technologies from laboratory to land / field. This pioneer centre acts as source of sunlight to the rural households, farm youth and women self help groups of Sivaganga district offering training in agriculture and allied disciplines such as Animal Husbandry, Fisheries, Agriculture, Horticulture, Soil Science and Home Science for their social and economic upliftment.



About Krishi Vigyan Kendra

Krishi Vigyan Kendra has a total land area of 17.33 ha, which was donated by Thavathiru Kundrakudi Adigalar. The area occupied by the administrative building and roads is 0.037 ha. The training hall in KVK, Kundrakudi is 600 sq.ft., which can accommodate atleast 100 persons. The KVK has a well furnished Farmers’hostel having the facility of accommodating 30 farmers at a time. The trainees of KVK avail this facility. The centre also has demonstration unit for the benefit of the farmers in 0.400 ha. Objectives and Mandates

  • Conducting On farm testing to identify the location specificity of agricultural technologies under various farming systems
  • Organizing frontline demonstrations to establish production potential of various crops and enterprise on the farmers fields
  • Organizing need based training of farmers to update their knowledge and skills in modern agricultural technologies related to technology assessment, refinement and demonstration, and training of extension personnel to orient them in the frontier areas of technology development.
  • Creating awareness about improved technologies to larger masses through appropriate extension programmes
  • Production and supply of good quality seeds and planting materials, livestock poultry and fisheries breeds and products and various bio-products to the farming community
  • Work as resource knowledge centre of agricultural technology for supporting initiatives of public, private and voluntary sector improving the agricultural economy of the district.

Extension Activities

  • Conduct On-campus and Off-campus training to the rural farmers and rural youth regarding Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, Fisheries, Agriculture entomology, Horticulture, Soil Science and Home Science,
  • Conduct Front Line Demonstration and On Farm Testing
  • Collect soil, water and plant samples from affected agriculture and horticulture fields, analysis of the samples and remedial measures to be adopted is being offered
  • Offer advices and suggestions in multi disciplines to the queries raised by farmers through online video conferencing facility
  • Give technical advice through direct, telephone, letters, video conferencing and AIR, Madurai
  • Conduct / participate Mass Contact Programme
  • Visit various farms and offer advisory services
  • Issue Project report for obtaining bank loan for establishment of new
  • farm
  • Arrange Exhibition and method demonstration, Video shows, etc.
  • Attend Disease investigation during out breaks
  • Participate Seminar / Symposium / Workshop / Training and deliver Guest Lecture
