SALIENT PROJECTS DURING 2022–23

The Government of Tamil Nadu has sanctioned a project titled “Establishment of a Backyard Poultry Research and Development Centre in Karur District” with a budget outlay of Rs. 212.00 lakh.
The Government of Tamil Nadu has sanctioned a project titled “Establishment of a Goat Research Centre in Tenkasi District” with a budget outlay of Rs. 151.70 lakh.
The Government of Tamil Nadu has sanctioned a project titled “Establishment of a Regional Centre for the Conservation of Native Dogs of Tamil Nadu” in Tenkasi District with a budget outlay of Rs. 72.55 lakh.
The Government of Tamil Nadu has sanctioned a project titled “Establishment of a Pig Breeding and Input Centre for Rural Development at the Postgraduate Research Institute in Animal Sciences, Kattupakkam” with a budget outlay of Rs. 99.48 lakh.
The Government of Tamil Nadu has sanctioned a project titled “Establishment of a Conservation Centre for Nattukuttai Cattle” at the Postgraduate Research Institute in Animal Sciences, Kattupakkam, with a budget outlay of Rs. 85.16 lakh.
The Government of Tamil Nadu has sanctioned a project titled “Conservation of the Umblachery Breed through a Multidisciplinary Approach in the Breeding Tracts of Tamil Nadu” with a budget outlay of Rs. 78.68 lakh.
The Government of India has sanctioned a project titled “Establishment of an Indigenous Cattle Unit for the Promotion of Indigenous Cattle Farming” with a budget outlay of Rs. 329.72 lakh under the National Programme for Bovine Breeding.
The Government of India has sanctioned a project titled “Tribal Community-Participatory Breeding Approach for the Conservation of the Endangered Toda Buffalo in the Nilgiri Hills” with a budget outlay of Rs. 221.98 lakh under the National Programme for Bovine Breeding.
To enhance fodder production, the Government of Tamil Nadu has sanctioned a project titled “Fodder Conservation and Utilization in Tamil Nadu” at TANUVAS with a budget outlay of Rs. 150.00 lakh.

SALIENT PROJECTS DURING 2023–24

The Government of India, under the National Livestock Mission, has sanctioned the following projects:

Surveillance, Molecular Characterization and Development of a Vaccine Candidate for Porcine Parvovirus – Rs. 45.30 lakh
Technological Interventions Towards Sustainable Livelihoods for Desi and Improved Pig Farmers – Rs. 29.28 lakh
Evaluation of Genetic Resistance against Parasitic Infection (Haemonchus contortus) in Indigenous Goat Breeds of Tamil Nadu through a Candidate Gene Approach – Rs. 83.70 lakh
Development of Non-Forage Fibre-Based Total Mixed Rations (TMR) from Agro-Industrial By-products to Alleviate Feed Shortage in Goats of Tamil Nadu – Rs. 128.31 lakh

The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi, has sanctioned a project titled “Socioeconomic Upliftment of SC Farmers in Different Zones of Tamil Nadu through Augmenting the Productivity of Their Livestock and Poultry” with a budget outlay of Rs. 110.00 lakh.

SALIENT PROJECTS DURING 2024–25

The Directorate of Tribal Welfare, Government of Tamil Nadu, has sanctioned a project titled “Enhancing the Livelihood of Tribal Farmers through Livestock Farming in Four Districts of Tamil Nadu – A Pilot Study” with a budget outlay of Rs. 202.08 lakh.
The Government of India has sanctioned a project titled “Determination of the Suitable Sample Size of Maize Lots for Near-Precise Aflatoxin B1 Quantification” under the National Livestock Mission, with a total budget outlay of Rs. 50.21 lakh.
The Department of Biotechnology, New Delhi, has sanctioned a project titled “Application of Aptamer-, Microfluidics- and Protein-Targeted Approaches for Sex-Specific Spermatozoa Enrichment in Bovines and Technology Development Thereof” with a budget outlay of Rs. 82.66 lakh.
The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), New Delhi, has sanctioned two projects:

(1) “Sweep Monitoring of Antimicrobial Resistance Threats (SMART) at the Animal–Human Interface: A One Health Approach” – Rs. 73.15 lakh

(2) “Deciphering the Epigenetically Regulated Iron-Dependent Immune Pathways during Thermal Stress through a Multi-Omics Approach” – Rs. 178.54 lakh

The Pennsylvania State University, USA, has sanctioned a project titled “Estimation of the Risk Associated with Zoonotic Tuberculosis in Tamil Nadu, South India” with a budget outlay of Rs. 70.71 lakh.
