SELF-EMPLOYMENT COURSES

Livestock and poultry sector plays a predominant role in reducing the wide spread rural poverty through generation of self, independent employment opportunities and income as well as creation of effective demand for goods and services. The role of livestock and poultry sector becomes important in creation of livelihood for providing diverse employment and self employment opportunities to the rural people and in the process of transforming the rural economy in the desired direction of inclusive growth and development.
Keeping this in view, the Directorate of Distance Education, Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (TANUVAS) is offering 10 courses under self-employment programme with a minimum education qualification ranges from read and write to 10th standard qualified. The courses include Dairy farming, Sheep Farming, Goat Farming, Fodder and Fodder Seed Production, Preparation of fermented dairy product, Livestock Farm Waste Utilization, Rabbit Farming, Pig Farming, Japanese Quail Farming and Desi Bird Rearing. All the courses are for 30 working days. For most courses, the fee range is between Rs.500/- and Rs. 2000/-. In self employment courses, candidates are given hands-on-training in a farms owned by farmers. The enrolled candidates are attached with the identified farms to carry out the assigned work and gain experience.

ADMISSION

  • The eligible candidates are admitted throughout the year for all the courses listed in the annexure after getting the filled in applications along with necessary documents and course fee.
  • On receipt of applications from the candidates, credentials are verified and scrutinized by the implementation centre/unit as well as by the Directorate of Distance Education, Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University.
  • All the qualified /selected candidates will be informed about the date of start and completion of the programme well in advance through the implementation centre/ unit.
  • The admitted candidates are advised to appear in person for attending the courses.
  • Admissions to all the Self Employment courses are made throughout the year.
  • Necessary course fee is to be paid as DD in favour of “The Director of Distance Education, TANUVAS, Chennai - 35”.

Course Curriculum

  • The curriculum for each course has been designed by the concerned subject matter specialists identified by the university
  • Practical sessions and individual hands on practice in the identified farms are given top-most priority in all the Self Employment courses

Content delivery / Learning strategy

Manual for the courses have been printed and distributed to the enrolled candidates. Practical exercises for one month or as per the duration of the course have been designed. Accordingly, the learning sessions are organized in the farms.

Evaluation

The candidates are evaluated based on the examination conducted at the respective centres and successful candidates are awarded completion certificates.
