GENESIS

Veterinary University Training and Research Centre, Vellore has been incepted during the year 1981 with the main objective of promoting poultry farms in Vellore District and continuously striving hard in establishing various livestock farms on scientific lines. Previously the Centre was functioning in the rented premises from 1981 of its inception and from 09.11.2009 the centre started functioning in its own building allotted by the District Collector in the Collectorate Campus, Sathuvachari, Vellore.


OBJECTIVES

  • Transfer of livestock and poultry related technologies including natural resources management through front line extension / change agents
  • Strengthening livestock and poultry research – extension linkage for developing need specific technologies
  • Promotion of livestock production eco-system through TANVUAS / entrepreneurs for sustaining livestock based livelihoods

Front Line Demonstration/On Farm trials

  • Need based training programmes on method demonstrations were also being organized regularly on animal husbandry enterprises.
  • Field level problems on animal husbandry practices were identified and on farm trails were conducted by this centre to solve issues regarding livestock farming

Village Adoption

  • NSembarayanallore village of Vellore district was adopted by this centre and regularawareness programmes were conducted on animal husbandry practices to adopt the recent technologies developed by the university there by to improve their livelihood.

Education

Self-employment courses on various livestock and poultry farming training for 30 days on payment basis were regularly conducted at this centre to promote the rural youth on livestock farming activities and guiding the farmers to start up new farms to become as a successful entrepreneur.
