DEPARTMENT OF VETERINARY PHYSIOLOGY

The department of Physiology is as old as the Madras Veterinary College. The subject of Physiology is taught in the first and second year of B.V.Sc., course and a M.V.Sc., courses is offered from 1959 and Ph.D., since 1984.

The research achievement includes Starling Heart Lung machine for isolated heart perfusion (1957), Isolated coronary perfusion apparatus for cat (1961), Blood pressure recording device for dogs (1964), Serum alkaline phosphatase strain for increased egg production (1978), Rumen manipulation to increase microbial protein by dimethylol urea (1995), Immuno endocrinology to increase broiler growth (1998) and establishment of biochemical and hematological profile for all domestic animals and profile of reproduction in buffaloes (1995). In-vitro maturation, fertilization, embryo culture and activation treatments of ovine oocytes in different culture systems (2003), Isolation and characterization of stem cell derived from buffalo (Bunalus bubalis) (2008), Research on dietary manipulation of fat on ageing (2009), Fertility associated proteins as biomarkers in bull semen (2012). So for, 112 M.V.Sc., and 12 Ph.D., scholars had completed their degree programme. Stress physiology, nutritional and reproductive physiology are identified as the thrust areas
