The department has been recognized by ICAR as Centre of Advanced Studies during 1995 and then Centre of Advanced Faculty Training (CAFT) since 2010.

  • To impart the knowledge of Clinical Medicine and Therapeutics at doctorate level students and staff
  • To undertake field oriented research to increase the production of herbivorous animals especially ruminants by Ph.D. students by adopting up to date and advanced techniques.

  • Clinicopathological diagnosis of Hyperadrenocorticism in dogs
  • Staging of Chronic Kidney Diseases and determining its usefulness in therapeutic management

Ph.D.

  • Evaluation of antibiotic resistant mastitis in dairy cows
  • Doppler echocardiographic evaluation of acquired heart disease in dogs

PG Diploma

  • Post graduate diploma in Small Animal Dermatology
  • Post graduate diploma in Small Animal Emergency and Critical care

Training

  • Under the auspices of ICAR Center for advanced fcaulty training (CAFT), Department of Veterinary Clinical Medicine, Ethics and Jurisprudence, Madras veterinary College conducts training courses for mid career faculty from state Agricultural / Veterinary Universities and deemed Veterinary Universities / ICAR institute twice a year
  • CE programmes are offered in the following area
    • Large animal fluid therapy
    • Large animal medicine
    • Small Animal Cardiology
    • Small Animal Gastroenterology
    • Small Animal Dermatology
    • Small Critical Care Medicine
    • Small Animal Clinical procedures
  • Special trainings are also offered to individuals with tailor made programmes
  • Imparted Clinical training to the undergraduate students of Madras Veterinary College, Chennai and Internship students of Veterinary College and Research Institute, Namakkal, Internship students from Chittagong Veterinary College, Bangladesh and Clinical training to Michigan State University students
  • This department has a well equipped SEMINAR HALL

Extension

  • Clinical service - Small Animal Medicine, Small Animal Dermatology, Large Animal Medicine
  • Referral Clinical services – Cardiology, Endoscopy, Critical Care, Ophthalmology, Nephrology, Oncology, and Imaging.
  • Field visits by faculties for disease investigation and treatment
  • Audio Visual Aids:
    • One CD on clinical procedures under progress
    • One CD prepared on Biopsy Procedures
    • One CD prepared on oral rehydration
    • One CD prepared on Case Studies Small Animal Abdominal Ultrasound

Salient Achievements

  • The Ph.D. scholars who finished their programmes have been elevated for higher posts. Young scholars have joined / are to join in various State Agricultural / Veterinary Universities and Animal Husbandry Departments.
  • Development of newer facilities in other parts of the country through TANUVAS educated postgraduates in their respective states
  • The research findings will be disseminated to the field veterinarians and teaching staff from the various State Agricultural / Veterinary Universities during the training programmes conducted by this department every year
