Owing to the geographical location, agricultural wealth and livestock resources favourable for uplifting the livelihood of farmers and marketing avenues of Tamil Nadu state, a new Veterinary College and Research Institute was established at Theni by the Government of Tamil Nadu in the month of October, 2020. It is one of the seven constituent colleges established under the Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Chennai.

The campus of Veterinary College and Research Institute, Theni spans over an area of 253.64 acres at Veerapandi, Theni. The infrastructure of the college is designed to meet the Minimum Standards of Veterinary Education (MSVE, 2016) prescribed by Veterinary Council of India (VCI). The B.V.Sc & A.H. degree programme was started from the academic year 2020-21 with an initial intake of 40 students. As the construction of the campus at Veerapandi is under progress, the college is functioning currently at Kalvi Trust campus, Devathanapatti with required manpower and floor space, fulfilling the MSVE, 2016 norms of VCI.
Hostel facilities are available for girls and boys separately. The rooms are furnished with steel cots, chairs and tables.
Physical activity for students is a very important component, besides academics. A playground equipped with outdoor and indoor sports related facilities is available for the students.
NSS unit functioning at the college addresses the societal issues and engages the students to create awareness on the same using their transferable skills.
