DEPARTMENT OF VETERINARY ANATOMY AND HISTOLOGY

The inception of the department of Veterinary Anatomy and Histology was in June, 2012 when the Veterinary College and Research Institute at Tirunelveli was started.

Objectives

To teach anatomy of domestic animals to undergraduate students of veterinary science
To impart training programmes for field veterinarians/ clinicians to refresh their anatomical knowledge.
To carry out basic research programmes

Education

Under Graduate

This department offers four courses to UG students under VCI pattern in the first and second year of the BVSc course as below. Well furnished laboratory facilities and complete teaching aids are available for offering these courses

VAN 111: Gross Anatomy I – Osteology, Arthrology, Biomechanics (1+2)
VAN 121: Gross anatomy II - Myology, Angiology, Neurology & Aesthesiology (2+2)
VAN 211: Histology and embryology (2+2)
VAN 221: Gross Anatomy III - Splanchnology & Applied Anatomy (1+1)

Staff Excellence

Dr. S. Rajathi, Assistant Professor was awarded Dr. C. Vijayaraghavan Memorial Silver Jubilee Award and Medal for the Best Paper in Avian Anatomy in the XXVII IAVA Conference and National Symposium held at Mannuthy, Kerala.
Dr. A. Kumaravel, Professor and Head bagged State level awards as Best science writer, Orator, Teacher and Compere in Tamil and English
