GENESIS

A Livestock Research and Development Centre was established at Erode on 13.11.1980, which now functions as Veterinary University Training & Research Centre (VUTRC), at 306, Sathy Road, Veerappan chatram, Erode 638 004. This Centre renders services to the farming community and strives to suggest solution to the locations specific problems.


OBJECTIVES

  • Transfer of livestock and poultry related technologies including natural resources management through front line extension / change agents
  • Strengthening livestock and poultry research – extension linkage for developing need specific technologies
  • Promotion of livestock production eco-system through TANVUAS / entrepreneurs for sustaining livestock based livelihoods

Services Offered by the Centre

  • Advice and information services in livestock and poultry rearing for better production.
  • Regular On campus training programs on livestock and poultry rearing.
  • Need based Off campus training programs on livestock and poultry rearing.
  • TANUVAS certified Self employment courses on livestock and poultry rearing.
  • Preparation of bankable project proposals on livestock and poultry rearing on cost basis.
  • Village adoption Programs to improve the livelihood of the people in terms of livestock and poultry rearing training and other general developmental awareness programs.
  • To conduct Central and state Government sponsored training programs to the farmers in specified areas of livestock and poultry rearing.
  • Model fodder and azolla plots, Livestock housing models such as Slatted Floor House for Goats, Low Cost PVC Inclined Battery Cages for Rabbit, Rural Poultry cage, chicken brooder and egg candler model are displayed at the centre for the benefit of the farmers.
  • Sale of TANUVAS products and publications at subsidized rates.

  • TANUVAS certified Self employment courses are conducted for interested people on livestock and poultry farming and value addition of livestock products.
  • The applications in this connection are invited throughout the year and processed through the Directorate of Distance Education (DDE), TANUVAS, Chennai. The fee structure followed is as per the TANUVAS norms.

  • The centre has acted as co-ordinating centre for IAEA-FAO sponsored scheme on, “Soil, water and nutrient use efficiency in integrated cropping – livestock production system”.

CURRENT RESEARCH ACTIVITIES

  • The centre is conducting the NABARD funded FSPF scheme on “Improving the livelihood of Backyard desi fowl farmers of Thalavadi Block, Erode District”.
  • The centre is acting as co-coordinating centre for TNIAMP sponsored Scheme on, “Sensitizing Farmers on Nutritional Supplemental Strategy Developed at TANUVAS to Increase Productivity In Dairy Cattle And Mitigate Methane Emission” in Erode district.
  • The centre is acting as co-coordinating centre for NADP Scheme on, "Revitalising Dairy Cattle through TANUVAS Grand supplement to Enhance the Productivity and Profitability"
