DEPARTMENT OF VETERINARY PATHOLOGY


The Department of Veterinary Pathology was established at Veterinary College and Research Institute, Udumalpet in the year 2020 with the objective to offer quality education to B.V.Sc. & A.H. undergraduate students.


Objectives

  • To impart quality undergraduate education to B.V.Sc.& A.H. Students.
  • To undertake research activities on livestock and poultry diseases.
  • To create awareness on animal diseases for field veterinarians and farmers.
  • To provide diagnostic services on livestock and poultry diseases through Post-mortem and Histopathological examinations.To provide diagnostic services on livestock and poultry diseases through Post-mortem and Histopathological examinations.

Education

Courses offered

As per the Minimum Standards of Veterinary Education – 2016 regulations prescribed by Veterinary Council of India, the following courses are offered to the undergraduate students.

Second Professional Year – B.V.Sc. & A.H.

  • Veterinary Pathology (Paper I and II) – 4+2 credit hours
  • Veterinary Pathology (Paper I)
  • Unit I - General Veterinary Pathology
  • Unit II - Systemic Veterinary Pathology
  • Unit III - Animal Oncology, Veterinary Clonical Pathology and Necropsy
  • Veterinary Pathology (Paper II)
  • Unit IV - Pathology of Infectious and Non-Infectious Diseases of Domestic Animals
  • Unit V - Avian Pathology
  • Unit VI - Pathology of Diseases of Laboratory and Wild Animals

Fourth Professional Year – B.V.Sc. & A.H.

  • Veterinary Clinical Practices II – 0+6 credit hours

will be taught at Veterinary Clinical Complex in collaboration with the Departments of Veterinary Pathology and Veterinary Physiology & Biochemistry

Laboratory facilities and Museums

  • Clinical Pathology unit
  • Necropsy unit
  • Histopathology unit
  • Two Museums

The department is having well established infrastructure facilities in clinical pathology, histopathology and necropsy to cater to the needs of the students, farmers and researchers.

Department activities

  • Diagnosis of diseases by Post-mortem examination in farm and pet animals, laboratory animals, poultry birds, wild life, etc.
  • Investigation of livestock and poultry disease outbreaks in and around Tirupur District in collaboration with other TANUVAS units and line departments.
  • Awareness programme to farmers on livestock and poultry diseases.

Vision

  • Establishment of a zonal level disease diagnostic Laboratory comprising of immunohistochemistry, molecular Pathology, wild life and zoonotic disease diagnosing units
