DEPARTMENT OF VETERINARY ANATOMY

The Department of Veterinary Anatomy was established at Veterinary College and Research Institute, Udumalpet in the year 2020 with the objective to offer quality education to B.V.Sc.& A.H. undergraduate students.

Objectives

To teach anatomy of domestic animals to undergraduate and postgraduate students.
To impart training programmes for field veterinarians/ clinicians to refresh their anatomical knowledge and provide hands on training for clinical diagnosis, physical examination and surgical procedures.
To carry out research programmes as joint ventures (in association with Clinical Departments and Dept.of Pathology).

The Department of Veterinary Anatomy, Veterinary College and Research Institute, Udumalpet is fully fledged for Undergraduate and Postgraduate education. This department is endowed with 30 numbers of compound microscope and 10 numbers of binocular microscope for histology practical and microanatomical research. Microscope with CCTV attachment is an additional ameliorating gadget for clear visualisation of histological slides. Hot air oven, autoclave, double door refrigerator, digital analytical balance, advanced pH meter, deep freezer, Histoembedder, automatic and semiautomatic rotary microtome are the brand-new instruments available in the histology lab for research. Dry museum containing HOME MADE skeleton of ox, dog and fowl--educational tools for osteology practical classes are very much available. A separate wet museum with 25 museum specimen jars with viscera of species like pig, ox, dog, horse and fowl are available. As per the direction of CPSCEA guidelines, embalmed specimens are used for educating the UG students. Separate labs for osteology, dissection and histology are very much available with recommended space as per MSVE 2016 with separate museum.

Education

As per the Minimum Standards of Veterinary Education (MSVE) - 2016 regulations prescribed by Veterinary Council of India, the following course is offered to the undergraduate students:

Unit – 1 : Biostatistics and Computer Applications
Unit – 2 : Principles of Animal and Population Genetics
Unit – 3 : Principles of Animal Breeding

Histology and Embryology laboratory.
