DEPARTMENT OF VETERINARY ANATOMY


The Department of Veterinary Anatomy was established at Veterinary College and Research Institute, Udumalpet in the year 2020 with the objective to offer quality education in the field of Veterinary Anatomy to B.V.Sc. & A.H. undergraduate students.


Objectives

  • To teach anatomy of domestic animals to undergraduate students
  • To impart training programmes for field veterinarians/ clinicians to refresh their anatomical knowledge and provide hands on training for clinical diagnosis, physical examination and surgical procedures
  • To carry out research programmes as joint ventures (in association with Clinical Departments and other allied Departments)

The Department of Veterinary Anatomy, Veterinary College and Research Institute, Udumalpet is fully equipped with necessary facilities for Undergraduate education. This department is endowed with 30 numbers of compound binocular microscopes and 10 numbers of binocular microscope with monitor display for histology practical and microanatomical research. A trinocular microscope with CCTV attachment is an additional ameliorating gadget for clear visualisation of histological slides and photomicrography of tissues during research. Hot air oven, autoclave, double door refrigerator, digital analytical balance, advanced pH meter, deep freezer, Histoembedder, automatic and semiautomatic rotary microtomes are the brand-new instruments available in the histology lab for research work.

Dry museum containing fully mounted skeleton of Ox, Dog, Fowl and Japanese quail used as educational tools for osteology and arthrology practical classes. A separate wet museum displaying viscera of species domestic animals like Ox, Pig, Dog, Horse, Domestic fowl and other animals are available. As per the direction of CPSCEA guidelines, Cadaver Donation Programme is in-force, through which the dead animals are procured and embalmed for educating the UG students through routine practical classes. Separate labs for Osteology & Arthrology with sufficient quantity of , dissection and histology are very much available with recommended space as per MSVE 2016 with separate museum

As per the Minimum Standards of Veterinary Education (MSVE) - 2016 regulations prescribed by Veterinary Council of India, the following course is offered to the undergraduate students:

I Professional Year B.V.Sc & A.H.

  • Veterinary Anatomy (Paper I & II) – 4+3 credit hours
  • Paper I: Units 1,2,3 & 4 | Paper II: Units 5,6,7 & 8

  • Histology and Embryology research laboratory

Museum available

  • Osteology and skeletons of livestock and birds
  • Wet specimen – Body regions and organs of domestic and wild animals
