DEPARTMENT OF VETERINARY SURGERY AND RADIOLOGY
Objectives
To impart Undergraduate education to the students of VCRI, Tirunelveli.
To provide surgical treatment to sick animals and to train Undergraduates in the management of clinical cases.
To offer guidance to research students.
To provide information to the pet and farm animal owners regarding prevention and management of surgical ailments by way of extension activities.
To function as a surgical referral unit for Southern districts of Tamil Nadu.
Education
The Department is currently offering course on Veterinary Surgery and Radiology as per MSVE - 2016 syllabus to the under graduate students.

Salient Achievements
Our small animal operation theatre is equipped with Boyel's inhalant anaesthetic workstation, Hydraulic operated OT table, Shadow-less OT LED Light, Electro cautery unit and suction apparatus, basic instruments for soft tissue surgeries.
Large Animal operation theatre is equipped with Large animal anaesthetic machine, hydraulic operated OT table, Hydraulic operated trolley cum operation table with hind quarter elevator, transport trolley, overhead large animal hoist and basic instruments for soft tissue surgeries, teat surgeries, orthopaedic surgeries and Hoof related conditions.
Dental / Oro maxillary Unit equipped with Ultrasonic dental scaler, 20 mA dental x-ray unit, air rotor with compressor and basic dental instruments.
The Orthopaedic theatre is equipped with basic orthopaedic instruments, Boyle's apparatus and a C. Arm X-ray machine. We have standardized orthopaedic procedures like intramedullary pinning, dynamic compression plating and tension band wiring.
