DEPARTMENT OF VETERINARY MICROBIOLOGY


The Department of Veterinary Microbiology was established at Veterinary College and Research Institute, Theni in the year 2020 with the objective to offer quality education to B.V.Sc.& A.H. students and to offer diagnostic services for various bacterial, viral and fungal infectious diseases of livestock and poultry.

Objectives

  • To offer quality education to students
  • To offer diagnostic servicesfor various infectious diseases of livestock and poultry
  • To carry out research work on different areas of Veterinary Microbiology benefitting the farmers, fellow researchers and the scientific community


EDUCATION

The following courses with (3 +2 ) credit hours are being offered in compliance with Minimum Standards of Veterinary Education (MSVE, 2016) prescribed by Veterinary Council of India (VCI).

  • UNIT-1 : General & Systematic Veterinary Bacteriology
  • UNIT-2 : Veterinary Mycology
  • UNIT-2 : UNIT-3 :Microbial Biotechnology
  • UNIT-2 : UNIT-4 :Veterinary Immunology and Serology
  • UNIT-2 : UNIT-5 :General and Systematic Veterinary Virology

Imparting strong theoretical and practical knowledge on various bacterial, viral and fungal diseases affecting livestock and poultry is the prime objective of this department. Adopting modern pedagogical methods in UG teaching is considered to be the strength of this department.

  • The department is focussing towards carrying out socio-economically impactful research in the regional area.
  • The Department is involved in routine analysis of clinical and post mortem samples received from veterinary clinical complex, veterinary pathology and other line department’sduring disease investigations.
