DEPARTMENT OF LIVESTOCK PRODUCTION MANAGEMENT

The Department of Livestock Production Managementwas established in the year 2020, as a part of Veterinary College and Research Institute, Theni with the objective to offer B.V.Sc.&A.H undergraduate course in the discipline of Livestock Production Management as per MSVE, 2016 prescribed by VCI. The department imparts education on the grounds of scientific methods of livestock and poultry handling, breeding, feeding, housing, and general management to enhance production and productivity.

Objectives

Offering undergraduate courses for B.V.Sc.& A.H students.
Carrying out research on livestock and poultry farming systems to improve the productivity.
Popularizing scientific livestock and poultry farming activities.

Education

As per the MSVE 2016 regulations prescribed by VCI, the department offers under-graduate course - Livestock Production Management – (Paper – I and II) – 4 + 2 credit hours

Models of different housing systems
Models of poultry and quail cages

Department activities

Imparting education to under graduate students as per VCI regulations
Identification of well organised livestock farms in and around Theni District
Arrangement of exposure visits for students to various livestock farms, zoological parks and hatcheries
Awareness programme to farmers on livestock farming practices
Documenting the package of practices of indigenous livestock germplasm of Theni District (Malaimadu Cattle and Kombai Dog).
