The Department of Veterinary Gynaecology and Obstetrics, Veterinary College and Research Institute, Salemhas been established in an area of 8995.36 Sq.feet.
The main focus of the department is to offer quality education and clinical training on Veterinary Gynaecology and Obstetrics for the undergraduate students. Furthermore, the department is committed to provide quality clinical services in the domain of Veterinary Gynaecology and Obstetrics to the farming communities, field veterinarians and other line departments.


Objectives

  • To impart undergraduate education
  • To provide artificial insemination service to bovines and caprinesin gynaecologyunit
  • To treat various gynaecological, obstetrical and andrological ailments of livestock and pet animals.
  • To provide training in the field of veterinary gynaecologyand obstetrics to students and field veterinarians.
  • To conduct research on field oriented problems in veterinary gynaecology and obstetrics.

Education

The department offers a course on “Veterinary Gynaecology and Obstetrics” as per the Veterinary Council of India under MSVE 2016 regulations for the students undergoing B.V.Sc& AH degree programme.

Research

This department is acting as co-opting centre for the undermentioned projects

  • Govt. of Tamil Nadu funded scheme on “Genetic improvement of Kanni Adu, Kodi Adu and Salem black indigenous goat breeds through production of goat semen straw for artificial insemination in 1000 goats for doubling farmer’s income (Budget: Rs. 149 Lakhs)
  • NADP/RKVY Scheme on “Augmenting reproductive and production potential through adoption of assisted reproductive technologies using sexed semen in dairy cattle (Budget: Rs. 208.90 Lakhs)
