Department of Veterinary Physiology and Biochemistry


The Department of Veterinary Physiology and Biochemistry was established in June 2012 to offer undergraduate courses in the discipline of Veterinary Physiology and Biochemistry as per Veterinary Council of India (VCI) regulations. Post graduate courses in Veterinary Physiology and Veterinary Biochemistry has been started in 2019, following ICAR PG regulations 2010. Apart from this, the department is also involved in Research and Extension activities. Further, the department offers routine clinical diagnostic services for VCC, Veterinary dispensaries and local farms.


OBJECTIVES

  • To Offer structured courses for undergraduate and post graduate students in Veterinary Physiology and Biochemistry.
  • Carry out research in Veterinary Physiology and Biochemistry.
  • Providing Clinical Diagnostic services.

  • NASF funded project (2022-2025) - "Development of nano-Micro Matrices for the delivery of Bioactives, Micronutrients’ and Therapeutics" (Dr.J.Vijay Anand-Co-PI).

Thrust Areas of Research

  • Augmentation of health and production of Umbalacherry cattle, native breed of Cauvery delta region –by innovative approaches.
  • Host pathogen interactions involving parasites for development of alternate control strategies.
  • Ruminant mammary gland biology- alternative approaches to udder health and management.
