DEPARTMENT OF LIVESTOCK PRODUCTION MANAGEMENT
The Department of Livestock Production Management was established as a constituent of Veterinary College and Research Institute, Orathanadu during the year 2012 with the aim to offer courses for undergraduate students of B.V.Sc. & A.H. on management of livestock and poultry.
OBJECTIVES
To impart education in livestock production management to undergraduate, postgraduate students.
Exposure visits to industrial /commercial establishments of livestock and allied sectors for students.
Conducting training programmes to disseminate knowledge on scientific rearing of livestock and poultry to farmers.
EDUCATION
As per the VCI semester pattern (MSVE-2016) and ICAR pattern Livestock Production Management courses are being offered for both UG and PG students.
Laboratory Facilities
Museum for breed charts, animal house and housing material models-cum-U.G.Lab is available
PG lab is available with the required facilities for research work.
RESEARCH

NADP Scheme on “Establishing Nucleus Jersey crossbred Bull Mother Farm: Production of superior crossbred bulls for sustainable milk production under rural conditions”- Funding agency: National Agriculture Development Programme (NADP) and completed in 2014.

Events Organized
National Webinar was conducted on “Laboratory Animal Management and Techniques in Bio-medical Research” from 24.08.2020 to 26.08.2020 at Veterinary College and Research Institute (VCRI), Orathanadu. A total of 793 participants from different parts of the country have registered, participated and benefitted through the webinar. Compendium of proceedings along with 16 lectures delivered by various scientists in the webinar were compiled as book with the financial assistance received from NABARD towards printing of Compendium of Proceedings on National Webinar on “Laboratory Animal Management and Techniques in Bio-medical Research”.
Training programme on “Sensitization of scientific practices in buffalo rearing in cauvery delta region of Tamil Nadu”- Funding agency: NABARD and completed on 2019.
