DEPARTMENT OF ANIMAL GENETICS AND BREEDING


The Department of Animal Genetics and Breeding, Veterinary College and Research Institute, Orathanadu, was established during the year 2012 to offer Undergraduate courses as well as carrying out basic and applied research in the field of Animal Genetics and Breeding.


OBJECTIVES

  • To offer Animal Genetics and Breeding courses to undergraduate students and postgraduate students.
  • Survey, evaluation and characterization of native breeds of livestock species in the Cauvery-Delta zone.
  • Biometrical analytics and Molecular characterization of livestock for production, reproduction and disease resistance traits.

EDUCATION

As per the VCI semester pattern (MSVE-2016) and ICAR pattern Animal Genetics and Breeding courses are being offered for both UG and PG students.

Laboratory Facilities

  • Computer Laboratory is equipped with modern computers along with audio-visual aids for undergraduate teaching.
  • Undergraduate Laboratory is equipped with teaching aids and infrastructure facilities to use microscopes for teaching and research activities.
  • Postgraduate Research Laboratory is equipped with PCR thermal cycler, mini PCR work station, laminar air flow, refrigerated centrifuge and other instruments for molecular research.
