DEPARTMENT OF VETERINARY PHYSIOLOGY


The Department of Veterinary Physiology was established during 1985 and has been offering undergraduate courses since then. The postgraduate programme was started in the Department during the year 2000. To its credit, the department has well equipped radioimmunoassay Laboratory and gas chromatography facility. Apart from undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, the department involves in the research and provides analytical facility.

  • Carrying out research in Veterinary Physiology
  • To formulate and carryout research projects with financial assistance from the University / External funding agencies.

This Department offers courses for both Undergraduate and post graduate Degree programmes.

  • Developed Video demonstration of practicals in cardiovascular and neuromuscular Physiology
  • Prepared books in Tamil for the courses VPB-I and VPB III

Research

Technologies Developed

  • Production of Omega -3 fatty acids enriched eggs and meat by including linseed, bajra, fish meal and their combination in poultry feed.
  • Production of chromium and selenium enriched Azolla pinnata for including in poultry feed to boost immunity and antioxidants status of chickens.
  • Developed Progesterone impregnated vaginal sponges for inducing estrus in anestrus cows and buffaloes.
  • Production of silver nanoparticles for wound dressing.
  • Production of nanoiron for prevention of piglet anaemia.
  • Synthesis and utilization of nanoselenium for supplementation in poultry to enhance production performance and immune status.
  • Utilization of nanochromium for supplementation in poultry to enhance production performance and immune status.
