DEPARTMENT OF VETERINARY GYNAECOLOGY AND OBSTETRICS

Objectives and Mandate

To impart undergraduate and postgraduate education.
To provide artificial insemination service to the bovines at hospital Campus.
To provide infertility treatments to all the farm and pet animals.
To provide obstetrical emergency treatments to all the farm and pet animals.
To offer farm advisory services for the benefits of the farming community by conducting and attending mass contact programmes.
To impart training to the field veterinarians about the recent advances in the field of Animal Reproduction, Gynaecology and Obstetrics.
To conduct basic and applied research in the Veterinary Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

Education

The Department offers a course on "Veterinary Gynaecology and Obstetrics" for the students undergoing B.V.Sc. & A.H. degree programme, as per Veterinary Council of India under MSVE Regulations (2016). The Department, also, offers M.V.Sc., and Ph.D., degree programmes in Veterinary Gynaecology and Obstetrics.

Extension

This department also gives training to the field veterinarians on reproductive problems and advances in their managements.
The department has conducted AI training for rural youths under MAITRI Scheme for four years.
Further, it involves in the treatment of infertile cases in the hospital campus during OP hours and attending Obstetrical emergency cases round the clock in the hospital campus.
Staff of this department are regularly participating and rendering services to the rural mass through mass contact programmes and infertility campaigns.
Staff of this department are regularly involved in delivering radio and TV talks on reproductive managements in farm and pet animals.

Research

Till date this department has guided 7 students’ research projects funded by Tamil Nadu State Council for Science and Technology, Chennai.
This department has completed 11 university and externally funded projects.
The department also has 3 ongoing externally funded projects and 2 Self-financing Schemes.

Achievements

The department has developed 5 technologies for the benefit of the farm and pet owners.
