Genesis

As a founder unit started in 1903 serving as a core department of this 118 year old Madras Veterinary College, this Clinical Medicine Department is an educational department of international eminence. During the founding years it was christened then as Therapeutics and Materia medica and later developed with modern facilities and christened as the Department of Clinical Medicine and Therapeutics. Currently this Department has been recognized by ICAR as Centre of Advanced Studies since 1995 and as a Centre of Advanced Faculty Training (CAFT) since 2010.The major features include:


  • Tertiary Care Veterinary in various medical specialties for various animal species with more than118 years of clinical expertise and excellence.
  • An outstanding Outpatient medical service with a case load of 250 to 300 per day, across various specialties and species.
  • More than 14 Advanced Medical Referral Clinics.

Objectives

  • To impart the knowledge of Clinical Medicine and Therapeutics at doctorate level students and staff
  • To undertake field oriented research to increase the production of herbivorous animals especially ruminants by Ph.D. students by adopting up to date and advanced techniques

Under the auspices of ICAR Centre for advanced faculty training (CAFT), Department of Veterinary Clinical Medicine,Madras veterinary College conducts training courses for mid career faculty from state Agricultural / Veterinary Universities and deemed Veterinary Universities / ICAR institute twice a year.
