Redesignated as Livestock Research Station in 1969
Upgraded as Post Graduate Research Institute in Animal Sciences in 2011

To serve as an instructional farm
To maintain elite herds/ flocks of animals
To improve the productive and reproductive performance of livestock by scientific interventions in management (breeding, housing, feeding and disease prevention)
To provide facilities for research in livestock
To supply breeding stock to farmers
To impart practical training to internship students of TANUVAS
To serve as a model farm for farmers to demonstrate scientific farming activities

Different livestock units viz., Cattle and Buffalo unit, Sheep and Goat unit, Pig unit, Poultry unit, Rabbit unit, Ostrich unit for conducting research in production parameters
Hatchery for hatching Ostrich and Poultry eggs
Facilities for producing sufficient fodder required for all the livestock
Supply of germplasm to needy farmers and other line departments
Certified CPCSEA Vendor for the supply of livestock and poultry reared in this unit
Fully equipped modern class room
Auditorium
Separate hostels for boys and girls for carrying out internship program for UG students
Slaughter hall and sales outlet for meat and meat products
Offering Skill Development Programmes in various sections of livestock
Offering training programs to farmers on various livestock and poultry farming
