DEPARTMENT OF VETERINARY PATHOLOGY

On 14.06.1985 Department of Veterinary Pathology was started as a constituent of Veterinary College and Research Institute, Namakkal.

Objectives

  • Offering U.G. courses for B.V.Sc., students and P.G. course for M.V.Sc. and Ph.D., students
  • Providing laboratory facilities and guidance to M.V.Sc., and Ph.D. students.
  • Conducting post mortem examination on Livestock and Poultry for academic and diagnostic purposes.
  • Screening the clinical materials and histopathological sections to aid in confirmation of diseases.

Education

  • Practical manuals have been prepared for various U.G. courses
  • Transparency slides depicting the lesions of various animal and poultry diseases have been prepared
  • A museum consisting of formalin preserved diseased tissues/organs is being maintained
  • A repository of microscopic slides pertaining to almost all diseases and neoplasms is maintained  

Research

  • Twenty four M.V.Sc., and two Ph.D., researches have been completed
  • Ph.D., research on “Pathology of gastro-intestinal diseases in layer chicken” and M.V.Sc., research on “Pathology of necrotic enteritis in broiler chicken” are currently undertaken
  • University subproject on “ Ameliorative effect of Panchakavya on aflatoxicosis in broiler chicken“ has been completed
  • University subproject on “Hepatoprotective effect of Amirthakaraisal on aflatoxicosis in broiler chicken”   is being carried out

Outreach

  • This department is serving as a hub for postmortem diagnosis of animals and birds brought from various districts of Tamil Nadu
  • Histopathological evaluation of various researches are being undertaken
