DEPARTMENT OF VETERINARY SURGERY AND RADIOLOGY


The Department of Veterinary Surgery and Radiology was established during 2023 to offer Under-Graduate course (B.V.Sc. & A.H.) as per G.O(Ms.) No.96 dated 18.08.2020 Animal Husbandry Dairying and Fisheries (AHD) Department Govt of Tamil Nadu, Chennai to offer Undergraduate courses as well as carrying out basic and applied research in the field of Veterinary Surgery and Radiology

Objectives

  • Creation of adequate surgical skills, anaesthetic techniques and image interpretation methods to students through case studies and virtual surgery
  • Continuing professional development for field veterinarians and fresh graduates
  • Benefit the livestock farmers and pet owners through advanced surgical techniques and creating awareness
  • Enhancement of knowledge to faculty veterinary surgeons

Under-Graduate Education

As per Veterinary Council of India under MSVE Regulations (2016), The following courses are being offered to the undergraduate (B.V.Sc. & A.H.) students at this Department,

Veterinary Surgery and Radiology (2+1)

  • Unit – 1 : Veterinary General Surgery
  • Unit – 2 : Veterinary Anesthesiology
  • Unit – 3 : Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging Techniques
  • Unit – 4 : Regional Surgery I
  • Unit - 5 : Regional Surgery II
  • Unit - 6 : Orthopaedics and Lameness

Credit based annual examination pattern will be carried out for Papers I and II

  • Paper I : Unit-1 Unit -2 Unit-3 and Unit-4 (Theory and Practical)
  • Paper II : Unit-5 and Unit-6 (Theory and Practical)

  • Small Animal Operation theatre with gas anesthesia machine, ventilator and LED overhead lamps with centralized oxygen supply
  • Large Animal Operation theatre with gas anesthesia, hydraulic table and LED overhead lamps with centralized oxygen supply
  • Anesthetic Monitoring device
  • Ultrasound scan machine with cardiac probe linear probe and convex probe
  • Ophthalmology equipments with operating microscopey
